Sermon Discussion Questions Week of July 17, 2016

• Our focus in any relationship should be on what we can give to it not what we can get from it.

Getting Started • What were the major points from Sunday’s sermon that you took home with you? • Describe your Serve Day experience(s).

Share the Scriptures • Read together 1 John 3, concentrating on 1 John 3:16. • How would your world be different without love? Have you ever known an individual without love? • If you didn’t get to complete the discussion question #3 from last week (Draw a heart on a piece of paper. Inside it, write words that indicate what fills your life. Remember, they are the things that get the best of your time, attention and affection.) Take a few minutes to share now.

Discuss Together 1. Describe the meaning of love for you personally. 2. Describe “love challenges” that we have had to overcome. 3. If you had been traveling down the road to Jericho and saw the hurt man, what would you likely have done? 4. Why in the world did the priest and the Levite cross to the other side of the road and walk past the hurt man? 5. How do you think Jewish listeners reacted to a story in which the Samaritan was the “hero?” 6. What attitude or behavior does God want you to have that is the most difficult to accept? 7. Who is it okay for me NOT to love? 8. Read James 3:16-17 together. What does heavenly wisdom produce? Prayer | Heavenly Father, continually encourage us to be sensitive to people, circumstances, and

events around us. Help us to walk each day as Your ministers, reaching out to others with compassion, love, and tenderness. May our actions reflect our personal experience with You and allow others to inquire about Your loving sacrifice in response to our human need. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Renew Your Mind | “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation….May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16
