Tip of the Week:
A Closer Look At the New KPI Check Feature
What is this new feature? The KPI Check feature, released last week, is a cool new way to view your most important metrics for Facebook pages in Analytics. From our Page Score metric, we decided to take it a step further. We wanted to give you a way to dig deeper into the most important metrics for brand pages, and to visualize them uniquely in a way that clearly shows your social strongpoints and weak points, compared against your competitors, your industry, or even a benchmark you set yourself (more on that later). If you’re interested in a more in-depth guide to reasoning and strategic uses of the feature, read more in our monthly strategy piece here.
Where is it and what can it do? To try out the KPI Check, click on a brand’s page (or your own page) in your dashboard. It should be the first graph you see:
Let’s take a look at the metrics covered in the KPI check. Note that all of them are over a period of time (which you can choose). Absolute Change in Fans – This shows you how many fans, precisely, a brand has gained or lost. Relative Change in Fans – This shows you how many faces, as a percentage of your base, a brand has gained or lost. People Talking About This – This metric tells you how many people are interacting (or creating stories) about a page. Admin Posts – This metric shows you how many admin posts a brand has made. Average Page ER – Shows you the average engagement rate of a brand’s page. Average Post ER – Shows you the average engagement rate for a brand’s posts. Total Interactions – Shows the total number of interactions with a brand’s content. User Posts – Shows how many posts were left by users (not the admin). Response Rate for Questions – Shows a brand’s response rate to user questions.
Along with these KPIs, the key part of the KPI Check is the ability to benchmark your performance in a number of very customizable ways. You can choose to select by a competitor’s page, by industry and location, or a custom benchmark based on a label which you can choose yourself. With a custom label, you can create specially-targeted benchmarks to figure out your performance for any conceivable purpose (for more information on the versatility of custom benchmarks, check out our strategy piece here).
How Can I Use It? It’s really easy! From the drop-down menu, choose from our list of premade benchmarks:
You can then see on the right how the relative shapes of your brand and your benchmark. By sliding your mouse over any of the metrics on the chart, you can see how your brand matches up with the benchmark.
If you want to set a custom benchmark, go to your dashboard, select brands to group together, click Labels on the top of the dashboard, and click the ‘New Label’ button:
Enter in the name of the level, then click on the checkbox next to its name, and press ‘Apply’:
Then go back onto your brand’s page, go to the drop-down menu for the KPI Check, and select your new label from the Labels section!
!And voila–your own custom benchmark!
Remember–the ideal shape for your brand will change depending on your industry, and your general goals. But regardless of which metrics are most important to you and which are not, the KPI check can help you determine precisely where you can improve to achieve all of your social media goals.
