April 12-25, 2013
Day 1, Friday April 12th - Departure Our journey begins with our departure from the USA and travel to the Holy Land. Day 2, Saturday April 13th - Arrive in Tel Aviv / Travel to Jerusalem We will arrive in Tel Aviv where we will be met by our guide, Cana Iyad Qumri and we will be transferred to the Holy Land Hotel in Jerusalem. Day 3, Sunday April 14th - Worship at St. George’s Cathedral, Holy Sepulcher This day begins with introductions and 9:30 am Eucharist in St. George’s Cathedral. We will be joining the Arabic-speaking Congregation for this service. After lunch we will walk down to Damascus Gate to get the feel for the distance and our surroundings. Lastly we will visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Dinner & Overnight: Holy Land Hotel Guest Speaker: Lecture on Islam Day 4, Monday April 15th - Western Wall, Dome of the Rock, Princess Basma We will depart for the Western Wall near Elharam Esh Sharif (The Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque), St. Anne’s Church and the pools of Bethesda, Princess Basma Center for the Disabled Children on the Mount of Olives. The Center is home of the victims of many paralyses, strokes, debilitating injuries and other physical and emotional needs, currently numbering 450 students. After lunch we will visit the Israeli Museum and the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are housed. We will also see a scale model of the City of Jerusalem, describing the city more as it would been during Jesus’ time. Dinner & Overnight: Holy Land Hotel Day 5. Tuesday April 16th - Shepherd’s Field & Bethlehem, Horizons of Jerusalem We will depart Jerusalem for the Shepherd’s field to visit the caves Church of the Nativity is located in Manger Square. It is the oldest church in Christendom, constructed by Constantine in AD 326. After lunch in Beit Sahour (Shepherd’s Field), we will visit the Holy Land Cooperative Society, depart for Mt. Scopus to view the Judean desert and the Mount of Olives. Guest Speaker: Contemporary Issues - A Palestinian Perspective Dinner & Overnight at the Holy Land Hotel Day 6, Wednesday April 17th - Caesarea and Nazareth We will depart for Caesarea Maratima, a seaport on the Mediterranean Sea which was build by Herod the Great as his summer palace. After lunch in Nazareth, we will visit Mary’s Well, the site of the only spring-fed fountain in the city, and most likely the place where Mary would have gone to draw water. We will then visit the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation where we will have an opportunity to have an introduction to the Icon. We will then follow on foot the path to the Latin Church of the Annunciation, the traditional site of the Angel Gabriel’s appearance to Mary, telling her she would conceive Jesus, the Emmanuel Overnight:: The Sisters of Nazareth
Day 7, Thursday April 18th - Jordan River, Capernaum, Mount of Beatitudes Today we depart for the Sea of Galilee - Lake Kinnereth. We will stop at the Jordan River from the Northern side for the renewal of Baptismal vows. We will then visit Capernaum where we see the Ancient Synagogue and St. Peter’s House. We continue to the Mount of Beatitudes where we will have lunch, and then visit Tabgha (Heptapegon), The Loaves and Fishes Church and the Chapel of St. Peter’s Primacy. Dinner & Overnight: The Sisters of Nazareth Day 8, Friday April 19th - Shefa AMR, Sepphoris The day will begin with a visit to Sepphoris, the capital of Galilee in the first Century. After lunch we will visit St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shefa ‘Amr, approximately 1/2 hour northwest of Nazareth. The Rector of the Parish is the Rev. Fuad Dagher and he will discuss the ecumenical and inter-faith work he is doing in this city of 34,000 Palestinian Israelis. His is truly an inspiring story. Dinner & Overnight: The Sisters of Nazareth Day 9, Saturday April 20th - Jericho, The Dead Sea, Judean Desert We will depart for Jericho where we will visit Mount of Templeton. After lunch we will go to the Dead Sea where you will have the option to swim (or float!), and then we will go to Wadi Qelt for silent reflection in the desert. Dinner & Overnight: Holy Land Hotel Day 10, Sunday April 21st - Zababdeh, Nablus We will attend Sunday Eucharist at St. Matthew’s Church in Zababdeh, followed by lunch with Fr. Nael Abu Rahmoun. We will then go to Nablus to visit the Greek Orthodox Monastery built over Jacob’s Well where we will tour the church and drink from the Well. Dinner & Overnight: Holy Land Hotel Guest Speaker: Contemporary Issues - An Israeli Perspective Day 11. Monday April 22nd - Ramallah, Bizreit We will drive to Ramallah where our first stop will be at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. This will be followed by visits to: Arab Evangelical Episcopal School, Episcopal Theological & Vocational Training School, and St. Peter’s Church in Birzeit. Dinner & Overnight: Holy Land Hotel Day 12, Tuesday April 23rd - Beth-phage, Dominus Flevit, Gethsemane Today we will travel to Beth-phage and the Mount of Olives. We will walk down the Palm Sunday Road ending at the Garden of Gethsemane. Free afternoon followed by dinner at the Qumris in Jericho. Overnight: Holy Land Hotel. Day 13, Wednesday April 24th - Free Day A day to shop and revisit favorite sites in Jerusalem. Dinner & Overnight: Holy Land Hotel Day 14, Thursday April 25th - Way of the Cross, Emmaus Today we will experience the Stations of the Cross. Later in the morning we will depart for Emmaus Nicopolis where will celebrate the Eucharist at the ruins of the Byzantine Church. Lunch followed by transfer to the Tel Aviv airport for travel to the United States.

Trip cost is based on double occupancy and includes service charges and taxes. Single rooms are available subject to availability and an additional $520. Travel Insurance All participants are expected to have travel insurance to cover the cost of flight cancellations, as well as international medical insurance for medical care while abroad. Itinerary The itinerary as outlined is an indication of the dates and sites to be included in the program. The tour director, however, reserves the right to alter and or change the itinerary and/or the sites should it be deemed necessary due to local conditions, time restrictions or other circumstances. Photographs Saint Luke’s Parish reserves the right to use photographs taken during the trip in Parish publications, on the website, and in social media. By participating in the t rip you agree to grant Saint Luke’s permission to use photographs in which you appear. Meals In-flight meals are served according to airline policy. Trip cost includes breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, with the exception of meals not listed in the itinerary. Beverages with meals are not included. Sightseeing and Entrance Fees These fees are covered for locations listed in the itinerary. Tips and Taxes Service charges and taxes on accommodations are included. Tips to guides, drivers and hotel staff are also included. Tips for personal services are not included and are at participant’s own expense. Not Included Passport fee, travel insurance, beverages, meals not listed on the itinerary, phone calls, and expenses of a personal nature are not included. Transportation to and from Newark airport is not included.
