A SMARTER WAY TO POWER AMERICA WHAT IS SMART TECHNOLOGY? Smart technology uses machine learning to allow everyday devices like phones, TVs and refrigerators to share information and make decisions without human intervention.

HOW CAN THE ELECTRICAL GRID BE SMART? WHAT COULD THAT MEAN FOR POWERING OUR FUTURE? Integrating new technologies into the electric grid has been slow; to modernize the grid the Department of Energy estimates that its $10 billion investment needs to be increased more than tenfold. The planned modernization of the U.S. national power grid is estimated to save consumers $2 trillion over the next 2 decades.² Leading to a grid that is more:

COST EFFECTIVE
RESILIENT
SECURE
RESPONSIVE
A smart grid is a “computerized”¹ electrical grid that uses two-way communication technology to deliver power more efficiently to consumers. Using technologies like smart meters, a smart grid can monitor such things as habits of energy use and fluctuations in energy costs to deliver power to consumers where and when they need it most and at the lowest prices. A smart grid can manage more electricity generation sources, including renewable energy sources, and is therefore more nimble and reliable.
