What is the Five-Day Academy®? The Five-Day Academy for Spiritual Formation is a program of Upper Room® Ministries, providing an opportunity for clergy and laity to draw close to a loving God through a daily rhythm of prayer, worship, learning, and reflection. Each day includes teachings by gifted spiritual leaders to deepen our walk with God, periods of silence, morning and evening prayer, Eucharist, and an opportunity to share with and encourage one another. Our Focus Mary Earle will help us better understand both the prayers and theology from the Celtic tradition, how they flourish in such places as the Iona and Lindisfarne communities, and in the Anglican Church in Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, and how they function as a truly living expression of Christian faith and life with real implications for social justice. Although our brief time together can barely touch the surface of this beautiful tradition, our sessions will offer five ways of understanding and living out a Celtic spirituality in today’s world. Session 1--Befriending on the Way: Companionship with others, ourselves, and Christ Session 2--Befriending through Scripture and Creation Session 3-- Befriending the Body: The Incarnation and the Cross. Session 4--Befriending Daily Life. Session 5---Befriending and Blessing. To Learn More...about the Upper Room Ministries’ Five-Day Academy, visit: academy.upperroom.org/about. Offered By...The Academy Council for Spiritual Formation of South Texas, Rio Texas Annual Conference in collaboration with Upper Room Ministries, and funded in part by Methodist Healthcare Ministries.
