Purpose This policy establishes the guidelines regarding player expectations and playing time for players participating on traveling teams (teams who participate in Gopher State) sponsored by the Big Lake Youth Baseball Association (BLBA)
2.0
Policy It is the policy of the BLBA that AAA baseball is a competitive program and wants its coaches to put their teams in a position to win baseball games. However, the BLBA wants coaches to do so while making each player’s baseball experience positive. 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4
3.0
The BLBA realizes that all participants share the same expense as part of the AAA team program. However, the ability to pay, does not guarantee equal playing time. The spring/summer baseball season is for highly competitive teams and playing time for all grade levels will be determined by the coach. Coaches are strongly encouraged to communicate with parents before starting the season the playing time guidelines. During the spring/summer baseball season (April through July), Traveling teams shall follow the playing time guidelines below:
Playing Time 3.1 3.2 3.3
All players shall play a minimum of 3 innings in the field of every game, unless tournament rules specify otherwise. This does NOT apply to the 14 -16 year-old teams who participate in Gopher State All players will bat every game as continuous batting through the lineup, except for the 14-16 year-old age group. The coach has the discretion to determine the amount the playing time for each player at each position.
4.0
The BLBA realizes players may not be able to attend every practice and game; therefore, some guidelines on attendance and absences have been developed. The following examples of excused and unexcused absences are only meant to be a guide, not a comprehensive list. Therefore, it will be the coach’s discretion to determine on a case-by-case basis whether the absence is excused or unexcused. 4.1 4.2 4.3 4.4
5.0
Examples of excused absences are: death in the family, family emergency, illness or injury, family vacation (2 week advanced notice), community service, school/religious activities. Examples of unexcused absences are: forgot, watching other sports activities, could not get a ride, habitually late for practice, or late for games. The consequence for an unexcused absence is the player can have their playing time reduced in the next game. The coach has the discretion to determine the amount the playing time is reduced. The coach must notify the player and parents/guardian of the reduced playing time prior to the game being played.
Indifference 5.1
If a parent or player feels the playing time policy is not being followed by the coach, the Board of Directors asks the parents to follow the Complaints/Concerns Procedures as detailed below.
Concerns and Complaints Procedures If a BLBA member (player, coach, or parent) has a complaint regarding an incident that occurred at a BLBA activity, or believe that one of BLBA’s policies or procedures has been violated, that person may file a written complaint (Complaint Form) to the BLBA Board of Directors with a request for appropriate action to be taken. *Except in cases of substance abuse, physical assault, and/or sexual harassment or abuse, all parties should wait 24 hours after a problem occurs. This is a cooling off period so one doesn’t act out of anger. *After waiting the said time, attempt to discuss the problem with the person(s) involved and try to find a resolution. All matters should be kept internal and should not be discussed with outside parties. *If you are still not satisfied after the discussion with the said party(ies), you must put your complaint in writing (Complaint Form) and submit it to the President. *The incident must be written and documented by the complainant (Complaint Form) and given to the BLBA President (unless the situation became physical) within two business days. If necessary, the BLBA Board may meet to discuss repercussions and discipline. Before any repercussions or discipline is handed out, the BLBA Board must meet with the offender. The meeting must occur within five business days of the submitted complaint form (unless the situation became physical). Based upon the seriousness of the offense, the offender could receive suspensions.
