Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

Measures that help an organization define and gauge progress toward common goals and objectives. They give everyone in the organization a clear picture of what is important.

The Purpose of Performance Indicators

• Benchmark internal progress • Measure the success of strategies and tactics • Measure your position against competition • Compare current status to past performance; vital to continuous improvement efforts • Inform administrative policy-makers 6

Setting SMART KPIs

Specific: Clear and easy to understand by all. Measurable: Don’t bother if you can’t count it. Achievable: Can be achieved with some effort. Relevant: Matters to staff and success. Timed: Set milestones and goals 9
