Attendance Treat 44 children who have achieved 100% attendance from across the school Foundation Stage to Year 6 enjoyed a special day out at Belton House on Thursday 16th July. It was a beautiful sunny day and the children enjoyed playing on the recently re-furbished adventure playground - the water see-saw was particularly popular! The children enjoyed a picnic lunch followed by the opportunity to explore the maze and enjoy an ice cream before returning home. I am aware that some children narrowly missed out on the treat but have excellent attendance. In recognition of this the Governors have recently reviewed the Attendance Policy and from September all children who have achieved 100% attendance for a half term will receive a treat. This means that if you miss out on one half term's treat you still have the potential to be rewarded if you achieve 100% in the next half term. I am sure you will agree this is much fairer and should see more children enjoying a reward. As a school we are committed to striving to achieve 100% attendance in order to secure the best learning outcomes for children. The Governor's expected attendance target from September onwards is 96.7%. Mrs Wakefield's target is 97%. You have all received information on your child's attendance in their end of year report. Please remember that from September attendance below 90% will be classed as persistent absenteeism and will need to be referred to targeted support. If your child's attendance is cause for concern you will be invited into school to discuss the issues and set up a plan to work with us to improve the situation. Can I please make it clear that if your child takes up a place in school even if they are not statutory age it is our expectation that they attend school every day. Abbey Primary School

The Foundation team would like to say a big thank you to all parents and family members who came along to support the event.

End of Year Reports All children have brought home the new style end of year reports this week. I hope you all enjoyed reading them as much as I did and you have a clear idea of how your child is progressing and their attitude to learning. Class teachers will be available after school on Monday 20th July should you feel that you need to discuss the contents of the report. Please see your child's class teacher to make an appointment if needed.

The office team have spent two days collating your requests and the cook will now be in a position to place the food orders for September. If you have not returned your menu choices we will assume you are bringing a packed lunch every day from September.

Transition Days This week all children have had the opportunity to spend three days with their new class teacher. Hopefully children have all had a positive three days and are looking forward to September. Parents' Curriculum Meetings will take place in September to enable class teachers to share with you year group expectations and class routines.

Miniature Worlds at Mansfield Museum Saturday 18 July -Saturday 26 September. Come along and visit the Mansfield Museum this summer to see the in-house Summer Exhibition. This year looks at our fascination with smaller versions of the real world. If you ever loved to operate a toy train or decorate a dolls’ house, you’re sure to like Miniature Worlds. There will be examples of toy soldiers and Sylvanians; make-it-yourself scenarios in Lego and Playmobil; model railways and boats; puppets, snow globes and ships in bottles.

Uniform At Abbey Primary we believe that a uniform serves several important purposes: • It gives pupils a sense of belonging. • It helps to develop a pride in their school. • It is practical for parents (no more great debates about what to wear in the morning!) Samworth Academy are very strict with their policy and have significant consequences for children who are not wearing the correct uniform. As most of our children ultimately transfer to Samworth, it is particularly important that we insist children follow uniform rules at an early age. Recently we have seen some children wearing incorrect uniform. In particular, some children are wearing trainers instead of school shoes also some children wearing casual / branded clothes. When purchasing new shoes for September, please avoid ballet style shoes as these are unsuitable for use on the trim trail. Please support us in the education of your children by insisting they are wearing the correct clothing for school. If there are problems can I ask you to speak to your child’s class teacher. Uniform Checklist  Burgundy sweatshirt/cardigan embroidered with the school logo (available from our online supplier, Just School Wear)  Simple Grey skirt or pinafore dress.  Charcoal Grey Trousers.  White blouse/shirt.  White or burgundy polo shirt embroidered with school logo (available from our online supplier, Just School Wear)  or plain white or burgundy polo shirt.  Sensible low heeled school shoes - trainers are unacceptable footwear for school. It is our expectation that all children will begin the new year with school shoes.

BEWARE It has been brought to our attention that there is currently an inappropriate challenge named “Charlie, Charlie” trending on YouTube and Facebook. This game involves contacting supernatural spirits. We are sharing this with you so as to keep you informed. As you are aware, the minimum age for Facebook is thirteen and children do not have access to these sites at school. However, please ensure that your child is also safe on the internet at home.
