Step-change technology in treating wastewater BioGills are a breakthrough technology in the biological treatment of wastewater. BioGills are above ground, non-submerged bioreactors that deliver superior performance in wastewater treatment. Microorganisms are Nature’s ultimate decomposers and recyclers, growing and consuming best in a high nutrient and high oxygen environment. BioGills provide the perfect oxygen rich environment for microorganisms to thrive. BioGills are helping resorts, tourist parks and industry achieve regulated discharge standards. The technology is ideal for the treatment of sewage, grey water and wastewater from commercial kitchens, food and beverage processing.

Why BioGills perform so well • Above ground: A BioGill is above ground where oxygen is freely available for microorganisms to thrive and grow. • Modular, Scalable and Affordable: Ideal for onsite treatment because a BioGill system can be customised for any scale of wastewater treatment. • Durable: The patented ceramic gills are durable, delivering a long life and cost effective system. • Low operating costs: Minimal maintenance and low energy consumption means reduced operating costs. • No odour and quiet: Exclusion zones are greatly reduced as no aerosols are produced. Quiet operation. • Retrofitting BioGills: Existing wastewater treatment systems can be retrofitted with BioGills to improve efficiency and significantly improve the quality of the recycled water without the cost of expensive infrastructure. • Self optimising: A BioGill system can be optimised to grow specific microorganisms to suit the treatment of various waste streams.

Product design Each BioGill treatment core consist of the following components. • • • • • •

246m² looped Nano Ceramic Membranes™ 58 gills with engineered air spacers Inbuilt disperser and trays Marine grade 316 stainless steel frames Polyethylene housing Plumbing connections.

The footprint for each bioreactor is 1150mmW X 1150mmD X 2420mmH. BioGills are compact, modular and scalable for easy shipping and installation.

The ceramic gills with air spacers provide the perfect oxygen/liquid interface for microorganisms to flourish.

Accelerated and effective biological treatment at low cost and low energy.

The science behind BioGills BioGills use patented, flexible ceramic fabric known as “gills”. These gills are provided in multiple suspended loops supported in the vertical position with water delivery at the top of each loop. Wastewater flows down the surface of the gills and convective air flow moves upward between each set of loops to provide the oxygen transfer to the attached biomass. As the gills hang vertically the bioreactors are compact and deliver a large membrane area with a high volume treatment capacity. No blowers are used in the system. The only energy required is for water movement from the bottom holding tanks to the top of the gills.

BioGills in action. Sewage BioGills deliver scalable solutions for treating sewage to a high standard suitable for irrigation and environmental discharge. Independent reports show a reduction of up to 96% in Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) within 24 hours, along with 80% removal of total nitrates.

Food and beverage BioGills are ideal for food and beverage processing such as juice processing, breweries, wineries, dairies, bakeries, canneries, vegetable and meat processors. The nutrient rich influent found in food and beverage wastewater means BioGills grow a rich and thick biomass. BioGills are a proven technology for dramatically reducing BOD to achieve discharge standards.

Grease-traps and arrestors BioGills are effective at removing fats, oils and greases from waste streams making the technology ideal for treating commercial kitchens and grease arrestors.

Greywater Treating grey water to a standard suitable for sterilisation and class A reuse makes BioGills well suited to tourist parks, resorts, boarding schools and sporting complexes.

Aquaculture Good quality water is a key factor in achieving successful harvests. BioGills provide high level bio-filtration with reduced levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. BioGills work with the existing cultures in pond water and no chemicals, bacteria or microorganisms are added. Instead BioGills harness the power of Nature in a completely healthy, proven, safe and natural system to improve the quality of pond water.
