406892 We’ve started with basic dimensions of a parking place. 3m x 6m is a convenient place to start. Taking under consideration everyday typical car usage around the world, it should fit a family saloon.
From current topology we took what we needed. But still stripped it down as much as we could. Fuel dispenser is hidden underground, until a car comes and parks at the filling parcel.
The dimensions of the filling parcel are easily stackable, making our system easy to fit all types of station capacity. Fuel, being stored directly under the parcels, also stacks aligned to the module.
The surface that will be a slab for the filling parcels depends on a station owners will. It could be concrete, asphalt, even gravel! This system just needs space for storing fuels and popping from underground dispensers.
What about this guy? The pedestrian. Main advantage for this little buddy is a unobtrused view. If filling station is located in quite picturesque location like on an image below, he sees all of it. If it’s in the middle of a lovely town square, he won’t miss any of his surroundings.
future filling station vision We were quite baffled by the size of the site given in brief in Colombia. We actually didn’t use any of it. We fitted there just one dispenser, by the roadside. We don’t want to ruin landscape of this untouched rural area.
Our main concept of future filling station, after many hours of discussion came to a surprising conclusion. We believe that we have found solution, that is brutally, and at the same moment beautifully simple and universal. Designing a new typology, for something so abundant and something of such a large scale around the globe could seem like a nonsence. After studying filling station trends arond the world, we’ve came out with our heads loaded with information, which could be summarized as this it’s completely local. Such diversity, taken into account makes this design task very complicated. How can you join raising number of hydrogen stations in California to fail of unmanned petrol stations in Poland? It seems, that globalization gave us the typology, but in real life, it morphs, and adjusts to completely different conditions, whether it’s western Europe or downtown Beijing. Let us take you to a new world, absent of ugliness and utter unbearability of today’s filling stations. A world where filling station is an unwanted void, being at the same time n e c e s s i t y .
