Important Dates: Spirit Week = September 21-25, 2015 Hall Decorating judging = Wednesday, September 23 Powder Puff Football = Wednesday, September 23, 6:00 p.m., practice field Buff Puff Volleyball = Wednesday, September 23, 7:00 p.m., JSH Gym Parade/Pep Rally = Friday, September 25, 2:30ish Royalty Coronation = Friday, September 25, 6:30 p.m., Tiger Stadium Bonfire = Friday, September 25, following FB game, South Parking Lot Homecoming Dance = Saturday, September 26, 9:00 p.m. – midnight, JSH Commons
Spirit Dress Days: We are using a “Viva Las Tigers!” Las Vegas theme for our dress-up and decorating this year. All the days are based on famous hotels or acts in Vegas. Students are encouraged but not required to participate o Individual and class prizes will be awarded for participation. o Class prizes are based on participation percentages & winner of the hall decorations All participants must follow school dress code while dressing up o Particularly important on Monday (beach) & Thursday (toga) Teachers have the right to ask students to remove distracting costume pieces (ex. hats, sunglasses, wigs) while in students are in their classrooms Monday 9/21 – Mandalay Bay = wear beach attire Tuesday 9/22 – Circus Circus = dress as a circus clown, the ringmaster, a trapeze artist, a circus animal, etc. OR dress wacky (crazy-mixed up fashions) Wednesday 9/23 – Hard Rock Café = wear your favorite band or concert tee Thursday 9/24 – Caesar’s Palace = come to school in your toga Friday 9/25 – Siegfried & Roy’s Tigers Gone Wild! = as a grade, dress in one of our school colors: o Seniors & 7th graders = Black o Juniors & 8th graders = Orange o Sophomores & Freshmen = White o Faculty & Staff = your choice of one or all 3!

Hallway Decorating: High school classes are asked to decorate their section of lockers/hallway to go along with the Las Vegas theme and victory over the Nemaha Central Thunder.
Suggestion: form a committee to pin down all the details and develop a schedule – work
with the class sponsors on this Come up with a theme to unify your decorations o Ex: Tigers hit the Jackpot!, What happens in Effingham stays in Effingham, Double-down for a Tiger win, Betting on a Tiger victory, etc. o Your theme/decorations must be approved ahead of time by your class sponsors o Las Vegas-y things include cards, dice, slot machines, flashy lights, glittery signs, etc. Tigers are always appropriate as well Areas to decorate – your grade’s section of the lockers/halls o You may decorate the fronts and tops of lockers and walls above the lockers Idea: print off locker signs matching your theme for everyone in your class o You may bring in props/decorations to sit on locker tops Make sure they are safe, school-appropriate, nothing too fragile or valuable o If there is an outlet in your locker section, you may plug in Christmas lights They need to be unplugged at the end of each school day o You MAY NOT hang items from the ceiling o You MAY NOT block doors or cover overhead lights Begin decorating Friday 9/18 after school o At least one class sponsor or adult representative of the sponsor must be present while students are decorating Parents are welcome to assist o Decorating may only be done before or after school – no decorating during PAWS or class time Supplies available at school are limited o Large rolls of colored paper are available in the faculty lounge There used to be some paper streamers there also o Other decoration supplies will need to be brought in by class members This includes paint & brushes, tape, scissors, lights, etc. Bring in duct tape for anything you’re putting on the cinderblock walls o Do not ask Mrs. Cave to provide paint or paint brushes Decorations must be complete by Wednesday 9/23 o We will ask an impartial panel of adults to come judge the halls The winning class will have points added to their class participation total for the week Decorations must be removed from the halls Friday 9/25 after school YOU MAY NOT SABOTAGE DECORATIONS OF THE OTHER GRADES! Sabotage (defacing decorations, stealing/hiding props, etc.) will result in your class forfeiting their points in the class competition 2
Powder Puff / Buff Puff: Wednesday, Sept. 23 6:00 (fb) & 7:00 p.m. (vb) Rain plan – VB will play as scheduled; we’ll come up with a plan for the girls before then Students wishing to play either Powder Puff FB (girls) or Buff Puff VB (boys) must sign up in the Office and get a waiver form to have signed by their parent/guardian o This form states that you acknowledge the possibility of injury and will not hold the district, school, coaches, etc. responsible if you should be injured while participating o Signed waiver forms must be returned to the JSH Office by Tuesday 9/22 o You must have signed up and returned your form in order to play…no walk-ons or last-minute entries Seniors & Freshmen team up to play Sophomores & Juniors Appropriate dress required o Teams may decide a common color to wear, or if they want to get shirts, but no one is required to purchase something in order to play Powder Puff = flag football on the practice field north of the school o Senior FB players help to coach the girls Buff Puff = regular volleyball in the gym o Senior VB players help to coach the guys
Parade / Pep Rally: Friday 9/25, 2:30ish (will let you know when the exact time is established) Rain plan – JSH Gym, following the Activity Schedule bell schedule JH and HS students will march (walk!) down to Main Street o Hopefully the Band will lead us Elementary students will meet us there Community members and parents invited too Traditional pep rally activities will take place downtown o Cheerleaders will plan a game for the candidates o Coaches will speak o Cheering, of course! Following, we’ll return to school for dismissal and bus pick up
Royalty Coronation: Friday 9/25, 6:30 p.m., before the football game, Tiger Stadium Rain plan – JSH Gym The HS Student Council will arrange for convertibles to bring candidates to stands Cheerleaders will prepare a photo backdrop and assist with crowning Winners will be announced, crowns will be given, photo ops given 3
Bonfire: Friday 9/25, following the football game A committee of seniors will be responsible for building the bonfire and communicating with local fire officials regarding rules/regulations
Homecoming Dance: Saturday 9/26 9:00 p.m. – midnight o Must be in by 9:30 p.m. o Anyone arriving after that time must be breathalyzed Cost - $5 per person o This is a new price this year o No discounts for couples JSH Commons Semi-formal attire Each class is asked to provide 3 2-liter bottles of regular soda & 1 bottle of diet soda, and 5 dozen cookies/bars/etc. o Refreshments can be delivered to Mrs. Walters’ classroom on Friday 9/25 or brought to the dance on Saturday 9/26 It’s nice to get the pop in the refrigerator on Friday to cool down plenty High School students and their guests only o Guests must be a minimum of Freshman in HS age Out-of-school guests must be registered & approved by Mrs. Scherer o Guest forms available in the school office o Must be returned by Thursday, 9/24, 8:00 a.m. o Guests must bring a picture ID with them to be admitted
