Updating a Locked Form I-17 • SEVIS locks a school’s Form I-17 upon: – Submission of Form I-17 update – Submission for recertification

• While pending adjudication: – Can only submit PDSO or DSO updates

Temporary Absence • Time frame – More than 30 days, but less than five months

• Request and departure – DSO reviews request for temporary absence – SEVIS record set to Terminated for Authorized Early Withdrawal

• Return to the United States – Student must contact their DSO prior to their return – DSO submits correction request to return student’s record to Active status

Student Transfer Process • New Initial student transfer – Can transfer upon arrival in the United States, within first 30 days – DSOs cannot refuse to transfer a student’s SEVIS record

• Five-month transfer rule – Must attend classes at a new school within five months of the last day student attended classes

• Reporting – Must report to the new school within 15 days of the program start date

Concurrent Enrollment • Definition – F-1 student enrolled simultaneously at two SEVP-certified schools – Both schools contribute to the student’s full course of study

• Form I-20 management – The degree- or certificate-issuing school must issue the student’s Form I-20 and update the student’s SEVIS record

Remedial Action Plans • Remedial Action Plans for inaccurate student records – Ensure student information is accurate and up to date – Common issues

• Responding to a Remedial Action Plan – SEVP will email Remedial Action Plans to DSOs – Email will provide information about how to resolve the deficiency
