Acorns and Chipmunks Our story takes place among the wild Redwood trees of Northern California. You may know that Redwood trees are the tallest trees on earth. But did you know, that if you were to climb one of these trees, you would find a secret forest in the clouds? High up, hundreds of feet into the sky, another forest grows out of the nooks and crannies of these great trees. You would see spruces, laurel trees, ferns… But your favorite discovery would be the thickets of huckleberry bushes filled with berries. And as you sat on your limb picking juicy berries, gazing over the forest in the clouds, you couldn’t help but wonder, is there something magical hidden in the nooks of these trees?

And I will answer your question: no and yes. To think a little acorn of a tree can grow out of the nook of another tree seems quite magical, though perhaps not as exciting as fairies fluttering nearby or a talking baby chipmunk asking if he could have a little tea for his scratchy throat. And since this is a book, I will ask you – which magical story would you like me to write? The one of an acorn growing, or the talking baby chipmunk? You say the chipmunk? Are you sure? Wait, some kids say the acorn… Hmm, okay, I guess I’ll have to eeny, meeny, miney, mo it.
