PRESS RELEASE | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE London| 01 July 2015
Dreweatts announces acquisition of Bid for Wine London – Dreweatts’ holding company, The Fine Art Auction Group Ltd, today announced its acquisition of Bid for Wine, the UK’s first dedicated online wine auction house. The merger formalises a two year joint venture arrangement which has seen the combined businesses grow to occupy the number 4 spot in the UK auction market with combined sales of circa £2.5m in the year 2014-15. The acquisition also marks Dreweatts’ entry into the dynamic Singaporean market via Bid for Wine’s existing presence in the country. In a joint statement Stephan Ludwig, Chief Executive at Dreweatts and Lionel Nierop, co-founder of Bid for Wine said: “Bid for Wine was founded in 2008 as an innovative online-only marketplace platform for wines and collectible spirits. A monthly calendar of timed auctions sits alongside a self-listing marketplace providing a lower cost model for buyers and sellers of wines. Since then the business has grown to become a highly respected name in wine auctioneering in both the UK and Singapore with sales to a further 28 countries.” Since working together the combined Dreweatts and Bid for Wine turnover has grown by 25% year on year and the acquisition will cement progress to date and allow us to focus on bringing clients even more of the well sourced and high quality lots they have come to expect from Bid for Wine and Dreweatts sales. Dreweatts & Bid for Wine’s next London sale will be held on 10th July with 330 lots on offer. The catalogue is available at both live.bidforwine.com and dreweatts.com.
