ACU Intramural Racquetball The following rules are based on USA Racquetball Rules. Players are in charge of calling points, hinders, and faults

Court Racquetball courts are located in the Rec Center Each court consists of the short line, service line, service zone, and the dotted line or the receiving line. Definitions: Service Zone – the area that a player will serve from, between the Service line and the Short Line. Short Line – a serve must land past the short line Receiving Line – receiver may not pass the receiving line during a service

Rules SCORING a. Points are scored when a player commits a fault or allows the ball to bounce twice on the ground b. Only the server can score a point. If the non-server wins the rally, he or she will win the serve c. Best of 3 games decides a match d. Game 1 and Game 2 are played to 15 points e. Game 3 is played to 11 f. You do NOT have to win by 2 SERVING a. Whoever wins the point will be the server b. First serve is decided by rock, paper, scissors c. Server is responsible for calling the score before the serve d. Servers have 2 chances to serve legally before losing serve e. A serve is illegal if the serve: i. does not hit the front wall first ii. Strikes the ceiling or both walls before the floor iii. “Long” Fault - hits the back wall prior to the floor iv. “Short” Fault – hits the floor prior to the short line v. falls short of or touches the short line vi. is not served off of a bounce vii. the server does not stay within service zone during the serve 1. server should not leave zone, until ball is returned off of the front wall. f. Both players may call long or short serves g. A return is illegal if: i. the returner does not allow the ball to pass the short line ii. the returner hits the ball in the air before it crosses the safety zone RALLIES a. All walls are in b. A rally is lost if: i. The ball bounces more than once before being hit ii. The ball does not reach the front wall on the fly iii. The ball strikes a player when it does not have the velocity to make it to the front wall 1. If ball does have the velocity and direction to hit wall, the point will be replayed iv. Carrying or slinging the ball with the racquet c. If a ball is hit outside of the court, the point will be replayed

HINDERS a. Due to the nature of the game, players often occupy the space their opponent wants to occupy. This may result in a player blocking his opponent's ability to play the ball. Such occurrences are termed either hinders or penalty hinders. A hinder is a replay of the current rally, while a penalty hinder results in the player who caused the avoidable obstruction to lose the rally. b. Players must determine what type of hinder occurred.
