DRIVE iQ PRO REFERENCE GUIDE Welcome to Drive iQ PRO! This reference guide gives you a snapshot of the main details involved of how to manage your account and register students.
Drive iQ PRO slots into normal driving lesson as part of the learning to drive syllabus. There are 23 assessments/tasks to be completed, split across 5 Units. I‐4 up to driving test, Unit 5 post‐test. Theory modules, Practical lesson support, Show Me Tell Me, DSA Mock Test practise are provided as support tools for your learner. YOUR main role is to coach and leave feedback for the 23 assessments. Out of the 23 tasks 8 are completed by the students independently, 15 are either practical or a verbal discussions. You are required to leave feedback for all 23. You choose when you feel that the students are ready and can complete the assessment. Set them up for success. By using a coaching style, they may decide for themselves what the right time is. Inform the student that you will be completing the assessment with them next session. If they are having a bad day, just say not to worry and you will come back to it another time‐ only leave feedback when it is a successful completion. The task does not have to be of DSA test standard! In essence, the discussion after the assessment is the most important part. This is to surface the student’s thoughts and feelings about the subject/task area.

Certificates: On completion of the last assessment and feedback has been completed, by yourselves students can download a PRO completion certificate. They also have the option of purchasing the Edexcel certificate via their own Drive iQ PRO account. Drive iQ PRO is free to the end user (learner). The student has an optional choice to purchase an official BTEC certificate for their CV, on completion of Unit 5 (post‐test), EdExcel’s certification fee is £50. Coaches pay a £6 (inc VAT) admin fee per student to enrol onto Drive iQ PRO. This is to cover materials, support and the internal verification required by EdExcel. This is not for profit and is supported by the charitable side of a2om the CIC (Drive iQ). Drive iQ PRO is a kite mark of quality for coaches delivering the course as method of teaching people to drive – i.e. you enrol every student, unless special circumstances apply see ** below The PRO Coach Directory is accessed directly by the public via www.driveiq.co.uk those registering for the initial Drive iQ starting point, can research local coaches via the website. N.B It is not a referral database and a2om do not take responsibility for referring students. The Drive iQ Theory and Hazard Perception test revision software is a benefit to only those doing PRO. Another USP for your business. ** Students should not be registered in the following circumstances: Already passed test, 10+ hours tuition already received, or no access to internet/email. This enables students to gain the maximum benefit from the learning period and rewards those who have used the process from their initial stages of client centred learning. Drive iQ vs Drive iQ PRO-What’s the difference? Drive iQ is a free introduction portal of modules that anyone can register to use. Mainly promoted and used via schools & colleges or road safety incentives/schemes. This is spearheaded by the Drive iQ Team whose charitable base provide contacts and materials for educational establishments. It’s independence from the ‘selling’ of driving lessons makes it welcome in schools as a PHSE approved programme. Drive iQ PRO is the ‘natural’ progression when a student is ready to go on‐road with their practical lessons. The Coach Directory is not a referral scheme but an avenue for students to make contact with Drive iQ PRO Coaches in their local area.
Login
To login use your original email address and password that you chose or were given. If you have problems accessing your password or have forgot it, the system will automate a new password for you. This is emailed directly via [email protected] so please also check your junk/spam. Enter it, go to your Account tab and at the bottom of the page you then have the ability to change it for something more memorable.

Your Account will also allow you to change details such as address, email, phone number, grade number, website etc. Please keep this completely up to date as this will be your responsibility to provide accurate information (phone/email) on the Coach Directory.
Home/dashboard
Your home page/dashboard is where you manage your students and are able to add their details & purchase credit etc. Once you have purchased credit, you will then be able to add students (Add Student) where you will fill out some key details. A receipt for credit will be emailed directly to you for accounting purposes. When adding credit, it will be in multiples of £6 (per student) as VAT is already included: £12 credit = 2 student registrations. Any credit purchased will not be used until the student accepts the registration process. When registering a student, double check the email address especially for .co.uk or .com to ensure it is correct on entry. Once you have registered a student they must ‘accept’ your registration invitation within 7 days via the email that gets sent to them (please get them to check junk, spam, blocked list etc.) If they do not accept within 7 days, the reminder email will need to be sent to them. If, when registering a student, a message alerts you saying the email address already exists, scroll down a little and you will see the invitation to upgrade link. The likelihood is that the student has registered on the pre‐driver site at Drive iQ and simply needs to upgrade to PRO with you as their coach.

Once you have registered the student they will now receive an email from [email protected] (get them to check junk and spam too) informing them that they have been registered on Drive iQ PRO and to login at www.driveiq.co.uk with their username (email) and password (this is automated, students can change this on their own Account section if they wish). Once they have accepted their registration, you will see them in the student list (as above). The PROgress column equals the amount of completed tasks. All details for PRO guidance are in the Coach Guide which can be found in your Library section. When printing off documents, PLEASE remember to do this double‐sided. When you click on the Manage square symbol (far right) you will drill down into the individual’s progress and details. Three types of task/assessment exist‐Practical (In‐Car drive), Verbal Discussion (In‐Car) and Online (to be completed by the student). Symbols for each are depicted alongside the assessment title itself. You will be able to leave feedback for the BTEC assessments/tasks, add theory test pass dates/certificates, driving test pass date etc. You can also see the students’ online Mock Tests/Theory and Module progress and view results. You will see this symbol which indicates that verification/feedback is needed from you, when a student has completed an online task/assessment. To leave feedback click on the assessment sentence, leave feedback, date of assessment completed and submit. 4
Student Online Assessment Tasks These documents will help you verify the student’s online assessment tasks on completion. Access to the online assessment questions that the students are asked can be found in your Library tab. The feedback here is to quantify that someone other than the student has not gone on and answered the questions for them. It can be a simple sentence to state that this has been done by asking the student about one of the question topics.
Once the written feedback/verification has been entered for online tasks completed by the student, the yellow alert symbol will disappear and you will have a green tick to say all done.

You should click on an assessment (the sentence itself) to leave feedback. So, date of assessment e.g 10/11/2013, write the summary, tick the box and click submit= all done! You will then see a green tick appear on your page to signal completion. NB Remember to let the student know they can now view the feedback that you give them…”Danny, we discussed and you gave” etc. Keep it positive and motivational for them‐ it’s your relationship The Drive iQ PRO modules (Theory Tab ‐ Eye Scanning, Attitude, Anatomy of a Crash) are support for your student’s driving session. So feel free to say, “Have a look at x module, as I think it will help you…..”. Or, “We’re doing a task on crash involvement next session…take a peek at Anatomy of a Crash and you can let me know what you think when I see you next …”. It may be less ‘daunting’ to use the words developments task rather than assessment when relating to the students, to make it more enjoyable for them. You also have the modules accessible in your own account to assist with content/discussion. The modules that support topic/unit areas and some suggestions/guidance is given in the Coach Guide. Students have unlimited access/attempts. 7
If you click on Practical lesson support‐this covers items such as roundabouts, moving off etc. You will see at the top of the student’s progress whether they have 0/16 for Theory support and 0/11 for Practical Lesson support o that you are able to monitor their use of the modules and scores achieved.

Below are some assessment examples, to give you a flavour of what we’re all aiming for. Some are longer than others, but you don’t have to write an essay for each one, just the emphasis on what the student’s thoughts and feelings, of why they would or would not do something is the key. You can see various different styles below:
Assessment/Task 1
Well done on completing your first in car assessment. You demonstrated your cockpit drill (DSSSM) really well, and explained why your seating position and head restraint should be set up with safety and comfort in mind. I asked you on what occasion you might not carry out your cockpit drill as well as you did in the assessment, you replied saying you should always take time to make sure you did the necessary checks and you consequently gave me some positive reasons why, well done. We discussed modern features in cars, can they be a danger? The ABS was our point of discussion. You said some drivers have it in their minds and believe they won't skid when braking hard because of the ABS. We discussed how this is not necessarily true, and how late reactions or weather and road conditions can affect braking harshly too. When I asked how you would deal with passengers who were reluctant to wear a seat belt, you told me that you would ask them to put it on or they’d have to consider getting out and walking, the safe alternative to the consequences of not wearing a seat belt.

Assessment/Task 3
Congratulations on passing this assessment today. During a 15 minute drive you responded nice and early to road signs and markings. You used your safety routines the majority of the time, but on one occasion, your concentration lapsed slightly and you forgot the MSM PSL LADA routine and noticed how the approach wasn’t so smooth and was more of a rush. We talked about this afterwards. Our discussion about the Highway Code was interesting. I asked if you could think of an occasion when you might not stick to the rules and you said most probably when you had friends and other distractions in the car or you were in a hurry. We threw a few statistics around and talked about experiences we’d both encountered of people we knew that had serious accidents due to carelessly breaking rules. This, I think was enough for you to digest and think about. Excellent work. Assessment/Task 4
When asked the reasons why novice drivers may be likely to crash you said "because they use mobile phones, have loud music, distractive passengers, feel over confident, drink and drugs, sat nav's, lack of planning and experience of different weather conditions/times of day". This was a very thorough list, well done. When you pass your test, you are absolutely correct in saying that you will feel "nervous but trusted with responsibility (and annoyed that you are giving people lifts all the time!!)". You said that you may be distracted and intimidated to go faster which may mean that you may skip certain safety routines. In order to prevent this happening you said you would ask your passengers to stop distracting you and if they didn't, you would ask them to get out. You also said that you try to remain focused and alert and not engage people in conversations if you needed to concentrate. We discussed ways in which you can remain safe on the roads after you pass your test and you came up with displaying 'P Plates'. I am pleased that you will be putting some on your car after you pass as it helps others understand that you are still relatively new to driving. Additional ways in which you can remain safe include [planning your journey, being early rather than late etc and remembering your safety routines). Finally, we spoke about what you would do if your phone rang while you were driving and your answer "I wouldn't answer it or I would wait until I got to a safe place to stop" was good. Remember though, only pull over where it is safe and once you have checked your mirrors for following vehicles/cycles. The safest solution though, as you said, would be to turn it off or put it on silent while you are driving. Excellent assessment with very well thought out answers. Assessment/Task 6
Hi Fiona an excellent discussion on driver impairment and overload. Looking at how you might feel when you’re stressed, you referred back to how you felt when you were doing your exams and how it affected your driving‐ this is very similar to how being stressed would feel. As a designated driver the factors you would consider was perfect, reduced visibility, time of day, friends in a party mood can distract you also peer pressure. When we discussed the impact alcohol on novice drivers can have you understood this but also your attitude to drink driving was excellent saying "if you’re driving never drink alcohol”. When discussing the use of mobile phones whilst driving you explained the lack of control you would have and also the lack of concentration which can lead to having a crash again a fantastic assessment‐ well done. Assessment/Task 8
Hi Ewing, Well done in completing assessment 8 on‐line. We discussed helping those injured in an incident or crash. You showed a good understanding of crash procedure and first aid and how lack of experience may affect this. Assessment/Task 15
Hi Ewing, We discussed managing peer pressure today. During the discussion you showed a good understanding of situations beyond test and how you would keep yourself and passengers safe. Well done.

Assessment/Task 2
Hi Andrew, well done in passing assessment 2. You successfully completed the on line assessment and were able to discuss with me distractions that you may have to deal with when driving on your own. Assessment/Task 3
On our lesson today you were able to show a good understanding of driving to a safe standard by following direction signs and were able to emerge left and right. You mentioned there might be a time when you had to break the rules such as cutting a corner if there was a car parked illegally, which made it impossible not to cut a corner. We talked about times when after a long journey you might feel tired and at that point you may be more vulnerable and not follow signs properly. It was agreed it was best not to drive if you felt tired. Assessment/Task 1
Well done today Ryan on your first lesson. You demonstrated a good cockpit drill and had an understanding as to the importance of using it correctly. We talked about a time when you might not use the drill properly with time restraints, peer pressure etc. We also talked about vehicle equipment that may give us a false sense of security, such as sat navs and airbags. You also spoke about how important you felt it was that everyone in the car should wear seatbelts and if there was someone who wouldn’t, you just would not give them a lift‐tough! Assessment/Task 1
Catherine, you were able to demonstrate the full cockpit drill and answer questions as to why this is important before starting a journey. You were able to consider why the checks are necessary and situations that might occur in the future when she may be distracted from carrying them out. Good start ‐ well done! Assessment/Task 2
Adam was asked following questions to confirm his understanding Q) Your vehicle is fitted with a sat nav system. How should you avoid letting this distract you while driving? Q) Your anti‐lock brakes warning light comes on. You should . . . Q) What will reduce the risk of neck injury resulting from a collision? Adam was able to answer these correctly. Assessment/Task 4
That was a good discussion today John. You have a good understanding of novice driver crash involvement and how passengers can affect this, both positively and negatively. Assessment/Task 5
That was a good session today Sarah. I liked the way you were able to recognise hazards early and deal with them in good time. When we stopped and spoke about the hazards you spotted you were able to recall the hazards and describe why you thought they were hazards, why you took the actions you did and what may have happened if you didn’t recognise them. Well done! Assessment/Task 7
Hi Jade. Today we assessed your ability to use scanning methodology and plan your driving. During this you were able to show good use of scanning methodology and plan your drive. How did scanning help to make that a safe drive? Can you think of any part of the drive that on reflection you could have handled differently? Thinking ahead to when you have your own car are, there any occasions you might not scan as well as you did today? What factors might affect this? Well done that was a superb session.

Hi Fiona an excellent discussion on driver impairment and overload. Looking at how you might feel when you’re stressed, you referred back to how you felt when you were doing your exams and how it affected your driving‐ this is very similar to how being stressed would feel. As a designated driver the factors you would consider was perfect, reduced visibility, time of day, friends in a party mood can distract you also peer pressure. When we discussed the impact alcohol on novice drivers can have you understood this but also your attitude to drink driving was excellent saying "if you’re driving never drink alcohol”. When discussing the use of mobile phones whilst driving you explained the lack of control you would have and also the lack of concentration which can lead to having a crash again a fantastic assessment‐ well done. Hi Andrew, well done in passing assessment 2. You successfully completed the on line assessment and were able to discuss with me distractions that you may have to deal with when driving on your own. Assessment/Task 3
On our lesson today you were able to show a good understanding of driving to a safe standard by following direction signs and were able to emerge left and right. You mentioned there might be a time when you had to break the rules such as cutting a corner if there was a car parked illegally, which made it impossible not to cut a corner. We talked about times when after a long journey you might feel tired and at that point you may be more vulnerable and not follow signs properly. It was agreed it was best not to drive if you felt tired. Assessment/Task 1
Well done today Ryan on your first lesson. You demonstrated a good cockpit drill and had an understanding as to the importance of using it correctly. We talked about a time when you might not use the drill properly with time restraints, peer pressure etc. We also talked about vehicle equipment that may give us a false sense of security, such as sat navs and airbags. You also spoke about how important you felt it was that everyone in the car should wear seatbelts and if there was someone who wouldn’t, you just would not give them a lift‐tough! Assessment/Task 1

That was a good session today Sarah. I liked the way you were able to recognise hazards early and deal with them in good time. When we stopped and spoke about the hazards you spotted you were able to recall the hazards and describe why you thought they were hazards, why you took the actions you did and what may have happened if you didn’t recognise them. Hi Jade. Today we assessed your ability to use scanning methodology and plan your driving. During this you were able to show good use of scanning methodology and plan your drive. How did scanning help to make that a safe drive? Can you think of any part of the drive that on reflection you could have handled differently? Thinking ahead to when you have your own car are, there any occasions you might not scan as well as you did today? What factors might affect this? Well done that was a superb session.
