President’s Message Happy New Year 2014!
Secretary Chris Bronson
I hope each of you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends enjoying traditions and making new memories. For those of you who attended our holiday Social thanks for sharing your memories of past holiday seasons. It was wonderful to listen to them as we tried to identify which member’s memory it could be. Most of the memories centered on spending time with family and those we love. That is definitely the Christmas spirit.

I’ve begun putting together my personal “list” of goals to accomplish in 2014. I’m sure many of you are doing the same. Some of you may be working on professional goals and others on personal goals and some on both! Keep in mind that IAAP has many resources available to help you with some of your goals. Come to our monthly meetings and take back to work some great tips from the fantastic programs we have coming up. IAAP makes it easy to access online content from the IAAP Headquarters website, our chapter website and many webinars available. There is no excuse; training is available 24/7. Our next program will be on January 14th and we will learn Perfect Planning Tips for Events presented by Amber Genet, Event Planner from Westfield Insurance. Please encourage a co-worker or friend to join you so we can show them the valuable network within our chapter which can help empower them in their role as administrative professionals. During the 2014 year I wish each of you success in tackling and completing your goals. Remember to reach out if you need help, your IAAP fellow members are here to help offer support and guidance. My best to each of you, Pieri Levandofsky
Thank You

Organizing Your Computer Files in 2014 by Pieri Levandofsky
We want to be efficient and recoup time for ourselves. Your computer and its programs can help make you more efficient. Here are some tips to help you with that process:
Organize folders crammed with pictures and documents to quickly find what you need in your computer and stop recreating or re-downloading files. Use the Search feature (appears in every window you open within a folder) to find whatever you are searching for. Create shortcuts on your desktop for programs or files you use often. Find the document or program and RIGHT click on it a menu will be displayed LEFT click on SEND TO>Desktop(create shortcut) Create folders and sort your Internet Favorites ( access the Organize Favorites button if you use Internet Explorer) Eliminate emails that have been sitting in the Inbox forever. You can also create folders to organize these and get them out of the Inbox. When searching for an email use the Search feature within the email service instead of scrolling up and down looking for something. Use Microsoft Word or Excel Templates to create databases to keep track of medication, family/friend/customer contact information, or any type of inventory. It will then be easier to edit these items and /or print a list as needed. Implement a back up plan to save important computer files to an external hard drive or use an online storage account ( example: SkyDrive or Drop Box). If the computer malfunctions you won’t waste time trying to re-create files. Share files among your home computers to help you easily access what you need. Those of you with iPad and iPhones you can use iCloud Control Panel on your computer to sync files. When researching something on the Internet, use the “advance search” feature. It is available on most browsers and will really reduce the time it takes to find what you need. Spend some time organizing and recording all your login passwords so that they are in a safe location and you have them in case you forget a password. (do not save this document in your computer though).Best passwords are long, use upper case characters, symbols and combination of letters and numbers.
