Advertise with the AAA The American Anthropological Association is the world’s largest association for professional anthropologists, with roughly 10,000 members. Based in Washington, DC, the Association was founded in 1902 and covers all four main fields of anthropology (cultural anthropology, biological/physical anthropology, archaeology, and linguistics). We publish a portfolio of 22 journals, offer career planning and professional development services, support college and university departments, award numerous prizes and fellowships, sponsor a paid summer internship program, and stage research conferences in the Fall and Spring each year. We also have public education initiatives that highlight the contributions made by anthropological research to important and enduring topics such as race and migration. Who are AAA's members?
AAA members are educated. More than half of the Association's members hold an advanced degree.
While many of the Association's members are employed in academia, we have a number of members working for nonprofits, government agencies, and in corporate settings. AAA members speak more than 100 different languages and are located across the United States and around the world.
