USTA-Let’s Move! Collaboration Advanced by PALA Challenge During the Public Service Announcement that aired at the 2011 Tennis Night in America, First Lady Michelle Obama reaffirmed the USTA’s commitment to build the platform that enables 200,000 youth to receive the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA). PALA recipients meet the criteria by staying active for one hour per day, five days per week, for six out of eight weeks. Organizations are eligible for free PALA certificates signed by President Obama, press release templates, 10 and Under Tennis equipment packages and more. The USTA cross-functional team has expanded to leverage key representatives from Education, Advocacy & Public Affairs; National Junior Tennis & Learning; Community Tennis Association; Schools Program; Tennis in the Parks; Jr. Team Tennis; Wheelchair Tennis; and Military Outreach. American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) National Convention & Exposition At the recent American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance National Convention & Exposition the USTA Schools team hosted a large interactive booth space, three education sessions (The rules have changed for kids tennis!, Teaching Tennis to the Masses—Making it Fun for Kids! and Fun, Safe, Easy, No Courts Required) and a commercial demonstration session. The USTA also sponsored the Majors of the Year Presentation session and was a presenting sponsor and activity director at the Let’s Move! media event at Petco Park. 35 USTA staff and elite PE teachers were brought in to help run the booth and court activities, and present the sessions. Hundreds of educators, professors and students visited the booth and attended the session and 200 registered with USTA to bring tennis to schools.
