Members of the Executive Board Jess Shoker Advocacy Street Team Report 3 February 4 2015
UPDATE The Advocacy Street Team is gearing up for a busy semester. In the beginning of January, we held an appreciation dinner for the whole team at 1280. We will also be running “Discover Your City Week” campaign in conjunction with SCSN and External Affairs. As Advocacy Coordinator, I have been working alongside the VP ED and OUSA Operations Coordinator to plan the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance General Assembly that will be hosted by the McMaster Students Union in March. SERVICE USAGE In terms of quantifying the usage of the service, the first ever Advocacy Newsletter had 168 reads online. It is also the second most read upload on the MSU Isssu account. PAST EVENTS, PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES Advocacy Newsletter Advocacy launched their first newsletter in November. I have been working alongside the VP Education, Communications Officer and my Communications executive member on this initiative. The newsletter featured updates from OUSA’s President and a recap of the Fall OUSA GA from a MSU GA delegate. It also discussed the MacVotes campaign and how the MSU engaged students through the month of October. In addition, the newsletter promoted the Diversity Services’ Accessibility Forum. UPCOMING EVENTS, PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES Advocacy Newsletter There will be two more issues of the Advocacy Newsletter released this term. The second issue will be released mid-February. It will focus on promoting Discover your City Week, the Gender Wage Gap campaign and other OUSA initiatives. The third release will happen after the OUSA GA, which will address the policy papers passed.

Gender Wage Gap Campaign- OUSA In collaboration with OUSA, MSU Advocacy will be running a campaign to raise awareness about the gender wage gap in Ontario. The campaign will consist of writing an article on the topic, social media, posters, and (most importantly) on-the-ground engagement & conversations with students. The purpose behind this campaign is to highlight that Ontario’s students have a distinct and pressing concern about the stark gender wage gap in Ontario workplaces. All seven-member campuses will be partaking in the campaign. We are currently in the planning stages of the campaign. In order to best represent the MSU, I have asked female leaders across the MSU for their feedback on the campaign. OUSA General Assembly- March 20th- March 22nd Alongside the VP Education and OUSA Operations Coordinator, I have been helping plan the General Assembly in my role as OUSA Campus Coordinator. The Council Chambers room booking for Plenary Day has been booked. In addition, I am contact with Avtek for AV equipment such as projector, microphones/speakers and live-stream. BUDGET The Advocacy Street Team budget comes out of the VP Education budget. CURRENT CHALLENGES Some current challenges I am facing consist of finding space for OUSA GA bookings in MUSC despite requesting bookings at an earlier time. I have contacted Conference and Event Services to find alternative options.
