“Questions on the Afterlife, Part One”

What is the “mark of the beast”? What is the meaning of “666”?

(Revelation 13; Exodus 15:11; Revelation 7:3; Deuteronomy 6:8)

Will Christians who commit suicide be in heaven?

(Judges 9:52–54; 1 Samuel 31:3–5; 2 Samuel 17:23; 1 Kings 16:18–19; Matthew 27:3–5; Numbers 11:12–15; 1 Kings 19:4; Jonah 4:1–11; Ephesians 2:4–7; 1 John 4:13, 15–18)

How does God judge someone that hasn’t heard about Jesus? (Romans 2:14–16; Acts 10; Romans 10:14–17)

How will we relate to our families in heaven? (Luke 20:34–35; Ephesians 5:31–33; Genesis 2:18)

Be sure to check out spencer.crosswinds.tv/crosswinds-blog for answers to the questions, “Will a baby age or stay a baby in heaven?”; “In heaven will we still be male and female?”; and “How should we respond to those who claim to communicate with the dead?”.

Join us next week as we look at the questions, “Can loved ones in heaven see us?”; “What will day-to-day life be like in the New Creation?”; “Does it matter if I am cremated or buried?”; and “Is there an age of accountability below which someone automatically goes to heaven?”.

Sermon Discussion Questions 1. Which of these questions did you find most interesting? Did you learn anything new this Sunday? 2. How does the message of Revelation (1) motivate us to endurance in suffering and (2) motivate us toward faithful living? 3. What is the “mark of the beast”? While Revelation 13 deals with the end, how does it apply to life today? 4. Share one way that you can bind the Word of God on your “forehead and hand” rather than the prevailing cultural influence of today. 5. What will our relationships with family be like in the New Creation? How will these relationships be improved over this life? 6. Consider this statement: “It is not our faithfulness to Christ but Christ’s faithfulness to his Father that saves us.” What does that mean? How does this give us hope in the midst of depression, relapses into sin, addictions, and more? 7. Read Acts 10. What does the story of Cornelius tell us about (1) the importance of the gospel for salvation and (2) God’s mercy in bringing the gospel to those who would believe? 8. How do the mercy and sovereignty of God give us confidence when wrestling with tough questions like, “How does God judge those who have never heard of Jesus?”?
