Coaches A. The coaching staff shall consist of a head coach and a maximum of two assistants. B. Winning coaches must report the game score to the league supervisor via e-mail by the next day. C. A new game ball will be available in the concession stand. The visiting team will provide a good used ball at all games. D. Coaches Responsibilities: 1. Provide a good role model to the girls in regard to fair play and sportsmanship. 2. Hand out and collect all uniforms. 3. Attend league meetings. 4. Cooperate with AGSA board and league officers and abide by all league rules. E. All girls on the team roster and present at the game shall be included in the batting order and MUST PLAY AT LEAST EVERY OTHER INNING in the field. A disciplinary problem or injury may be the only reasons that this would not apply. The opposing coach shall be notified prior to the game if either problem exists. Should a disciplinary problem need help being resolved call the league president or supervisor so that it may be corrected. F. Home team is responsible to operate the scoreboard.

Draft A. All players will be drafted each year. B. Daughters of the Head Coach may or may not play on their parent’s team, the choice will be left up to the family. C. The draft round for the daughter of the head coach or the sister of a player already on that team will be determined by the coaches at the draft. Head coaches will rank all the girls in the draft. D. Sisters are automatically place on their sister’s team unless the family requests this not be done

Game Rules A. The GAME 1. All games will be played according to the league schedule. 2. If time is available before a game, it will be split evenly between teams in regards to infield practice. 3. Each game consists of 7 innings with a minimum of 5 innings. Unless the time limit expires. 4. 1 hour and 30 minute time limit for all games will be enforced. No new inning will be started after 1:30 has elapsed. Official time will be kept by the plate umpire and the start time will be announced to both teams at the start of the game. The start of a new inning begins with the last out of the previous inning. 5. If the score is tied after the 1 hour 30 minute time limit has expired or after 7 innings, at the beginning of each inning thereafter the player at bat when the last out was made will be placed on 2nd base the following inning. If after 1 extra inning neither team wins, the game will be stopped and declared a tie. 6. 9 players in the field is a full team. A game can be started and played with a minimum of 7 players. There will not be a forfeit if a team falls below 7 players. 7. There will be a maximum of 9 players on the field during normal play with 3 designated as outfielders. All outfielders must start on the grass prior to the ball being pitched. 8. In event of any games being canceled due to unplayable conditions, all games that night that have been completed will not count in the standings and not made up. 9. During a game an injured player may have a courtesy runner one time, after that they must be able to participate fully in all aspects of the game (I,e. running, batting, and fielding) in order to continue playing. 10. If a girl is injured while batting and cannot complete her turn at bat, the girl that made the

last out will take her place at bat and assume any count that she has. Weather and Lightning 4. 1) Lightning: If cloud to ground lightning is visible from the park, play will be delayed until 30 minutes after cloud to ground lightning has stopped. Players and spectators should take shelter in their cars or in a park building, 2) Weather: Termination or delay of a game due to other weather conditions will be the umpire’s decision. B. Equipment 1. All players must be properly dressed in AGSA furnished jersey, and pants. Only non-metal spikes may be worn. Metal spikes are not allowed. 2. Only white or black undershirts may be worn, sleeve length is up to the player. 3. No Jewelry may be worn. 4. League provided mask and helmet must be worn by the catcher. Girls must also wear a mask when warming up the pitcher. 5. The batter and base runners must wear a helmet with a chin strap and a face guard. After one warning to both teams if a helmet is taken off intentionally before reaching the dugout the player will be called out. 6. Only National federation/ASA approved bats may be used. C. Pitching WIAA pitching rules will be followed. D. Batting 1. The strike zone is from the armpits and the knees. 2. Batters must keep one foot in the box when taking signs from their coach. E. Base Running 1. The diamond will have 60’ Baselines. 2. Stealing is allowed, base runners may not leave until the ball is released from the pitchers hand! If she leaves early she will be called out, there will be no warning for leading off! 3. Sliding is required when a runner is being played upon. If a runner fails to slide in this

situation, at the umpire’s discretion may be called out. The player may be ejected, if in the umpire’s opinion she is trying to cause harm. When the pitcher throws the ball into dead ball territory while she is in contact with the rubber, the runners are awarded one base from where they were at the time of the windup. When a fielder throws the ball into dead ball territory, the runners are awarded two bases. Base runners may advance if the ball is hit, if they are played upon or at their own risk. When the base runner is off the base legitimately after a pitch or as a result of a batter completing her turn at bat, when the pitcher receives the ball with-in the radius of the 8’ circle of the mound, the base runner must immediately return to her last occupied base or attempt to steal the next base, (failure to comply with this rule will result in the base runner being called out).

F. Ten Run Rule/15 Run Rule If a team is ahead by 10 runs after 5 complete innings or 15 runs after 3 innings (or if the time limit expired) that team will be declared the winner. Placing and Trophies If two teams tie for first place at the season’s end, the first place team for the league tournament’s draw and draft order will be determined first by “head-to-head” competition between the two teams. The 2nd criteria will be least runs allowed, followed by the third criteria most runs scored. Added Points of Emphasis 1. All AGSA Babe Ruth players will follow the Ashwaubenon High School code of conduct and will be subject to the same penalties if a violation occurs. 2. Current Juniors in high school that are playing in the AGSA Babe Ruth and have ever pitched on a high school team or on a high school level summer team will not be allowed to pitch in the AGSA Babe Ruth Rec League. Unless mentioned in the rules listed above WIAA High School Softball Rules will apply.
