What causes condensation? Condensation occurs in every home. Lots of things contribute to it – cooking, drying clothes, showering and bathing, even breathing produces moisture. When this warm moisture hits a cold surface like a window or wall, condensation occurs.

At certain times of the year, especially winter, condensation can increase. That’s because we tend to turn the heating up and keep the windows closed. Left untreated it could cause mould and damp, which can damage your walls and furniture.
Here are our top tips for dealing with condensation: In the kitchen
When drying clothes
• Cover your pans when cooking
• Don’t dry clothes on radiators
• Use an extractor fan
• Dry clothes outside when possible
• Open a window • Keep the kitchen door closed
• Make sure tumble dryer pipes go through an outside wall
In the bathroom
Maintain a constant temperature
• Use an extractor fan when taking a bath or shower • Open a window • Keep the bathroom door closed
• Use central heating to warm the whole house not individual rooms • In winter keep the heating on low throughout the day • Wipe away excess moisture from windows and windowsills
Most cases of condensation are caused by the way you live in your home. Following these simple steps should help prevent it. We will not compensate any customer for condensation damage to personal items, household goods or furniture.
