Tour Wasserauen – Ebenalp – Seealpsee – Wasserauen
 Meetingpoint: Wasserauen at 08:45

Option 1: Wasserauen – Ebenalp – Aescher Cable car from Wasserauen to Ebenalp. Short 30 minute hike down to Restaurant Aescher. This part is fabulous, easy to hike, and can well be done with small kids. Good shoes are important, but not neccessarily hiking shoes. A hundred years ago Restaurant Aescher was considered the most important touristic spot in Switzerland. The short hike leads through a cave (over 600 skeletons of prehistoric bears have been found here), along a chapel in another cave, and down to the restaurant. If you are an unexperienced hiker, have no good hiking shoes, or with kids, this is a fabulous short tour with magnificent vistas. Turn around to take the cable car down to Wasserauen, or spend some time on Ebenalp watching the paragliders do their amazing starts from there (you might want to book a tandem flight?).

Option 2: Aescher – Seealpsee – Wasserauen This is an add-on from Option 1. If you like to hike, this is your tour. You need good hiking shoes (stable, over the ankles). As it is a descend over roughly 1000m, you will feel this in your legs and probably knees. Unless the kids are experienced hikers as well, I would not recommend this for kids, as the paths are not secured. Meeting point at Seealpsee is the first restaurant, called Forelle. It is a nice place to stay for a while.

Option 3: Wasserauen – Seealpsee – Wasserauen Who doesn’t want to go up with the cable car can simply walk up to the Seealpsee. This is an amazing spot. It is a steep walk uphill for one hour over a regular street. Once at the lake level it is all bliss: There is a hiking path around the lake (roughly 1 hour). At the other side you can buy cheese and fresh yoghurt. Restaurant Forelle has several rowing boats for romantic encounterings on the lake. There is also a chapel on the lake side. This is a great place to stay and rest. As you might not want to leave, you can consider to book a room in the renewed guest house, or sleep in the hay in a stable – just above the cows. If you want to stay overnight, it is highly recommended to book in advance. http://www.appenzell.ch/de/alpstein/perlendes-alpsteins/seealpsee.html
