Few couples in Akron have created such a powerful legacy of volunteerism and community impact as Campus Gala honorees, Mark and Lyn Bober. The impact of their work can be seen in many organizations across Jewish Akron, the Schultz Campus for Jewish Life and the community at large.

Tikkun Olam honoree Rabbi David M. Horowitz is well-known in the Jewish community as Rabbi emeritus of Temple Israel in Akron and past president of PFLAG National. He is the family voice of the LGBTQ community, a soughtafter speaker in the interfaith community and a respected voice in the country at large.
Well-known and beloved Community Spirit honoree Lila Marks makes the world a better place by actively volunteering in many local and civic organizations sometimes leading, sometimes singing and acting, but always participating. The plays, shows and donor programs she has performed at the Shaw JCC are too numerous to count.

The Shaw JCC of Akron has been home to our community for over 80 years. Originally named the Jewish Center, the Shaw JCC fosters a safe and secure environment steeped in Jewish values. More than 6,000 individuals of all ages, religions and socio-economic backgrounds participate in a wide range of services offered including the Mandel Early Childhood Education Center, adult and senior adults programming, fitness center, full-service aquatics programs, 11-week summer camp and the Families Supporting Families scholarship program. As a missionbased organization, we strive to serve all people, regardless of their ability to pay the cost of services. The Lippman School provides an inclusive, nurturing and vibrant learning environment steeped in Jewish values and a global perspective which prepares students to challenge their intellects, engage with our global society and live fulfilling lives enriched through values and wisdom learned from Jewish traditions. Our school’s diverse and sophisticated learning experiences are developed by an outstanding staff whose programs and initiatives have been recognized both locally and nationally as exemplars of K-8 education. Jewish Family Service enhances the mental, emotional and social well-being of mature adults and their families, age 45 and older. We provide counseling, case management and education consistent with Jewish values. We also provide outreach to special populations such as LGBTQ seniors. An additional program under our umbrella is The Volunteer Guardian Program. This collaboration with Summit County Probate Court is designed to help indigent individuals have a volunteer advocate. JFS is paving the way for mature adults to live with dignity, security and hope.
