“Now It Begins!” Between Luke 4:13 & 4:14-15 – Part 2
Introduction: The Truth, the whole Truth & nothing but the Truth 1. After the Temptation – Then What? (Between Luke 4:13 & 4:14) 2. After the Temptation – Then What? (John 1:19-4:54) Bethany/Bethabara, beyond the Jordan – John 1:19-42 o John the Baptist witnesses/testifies to the Delegation from Jerusalem o “the next day” – Jn. 1:29 – John the Baptist says Jesus is the Lamb of God o “the next day” - Jn. 1:35 -John the Baptist ‘encourages’ two of his disciples to go and follow Jesus o John the Apostle and Andrew become the first followers of Christ o Andrew gets his brother Simon (Cephas/Peter) but Peter isn’t ready to follow Christ, just yet Bethsaida, northeast shore of the Sea of Galilee – John 1:43-51 o “the following day” – John 1:43 -Jesus finds Philip who excitedly invites Nathanael to “Come & See” o Nathanael, skeptic at first, quickly becomes the first Disciple to BELIEVE! Cana, in west central Galilee – Jn. 2:1-11 o “on the 3rd day” – John 2:1 -Jesus, His disciples, and His mother Mary attend a wedding celebration o Jesus’ FIRST MIRACLE & Jesus’ disciples BELIEVE IN Him - Jn. 2:11 - (Nathanael was already a believer) Capernaum, north shore of the Sea of Galilee – Jn. 2:12 o “After this” – John 2:12 – Jesus, His Mother & Brothers, & His Disciples go to Capernaum – but don’t stay long at all because… Jerusalem – Jn. 2:13- 3:2 o Jesus in Jerusalem for Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread o Jesus “cleanses” the Temple & meets at night with Nicodemus Judea – Jn. 3:22-36 o A significant Judean ministry for a significant amount of time o “when the Lord knew… He left Judea…” – Jn. 4:1-4 Samaria, the forbidden zone – Jn. 4:1-42 Capernaum & the region of Galilee – Jn. 4:43-54
