AP Studio Art 2D Design Understanding Color and Color Schemes Deadline: 3 Class Periods 1. Select your 4 most interesting and thought provoking images and change the colors to create the same color scheme in all four images. Try cropping the images to create abstract compositions. See the example below. 2. Make a decision to use one of these two dominant color schemes: complimentary or analogous. Example 1: Complimentary- Red vs Green
Example 2: Complimentary – Blue vs Orange
3. To begin, create a new file in Adobe Photoshop that is 7” x 28” @ 200 ppi. 4. Fill the background layer with a light value of your dominant complimentary color. 5. Use your guidelines (Pull them in form the rulers in Photoshop) to divide the canvas in 4 equal 7-inch squares. 6. Size your images to fit into each of the 7” squares by setting the crop tool to 7” x 7” @200 ppi. 7. Select and crop each image to create the best composition. Drag or Copy/Paste them into the 4 Image composite. Use the Free Transform Tool to reduce each image allowing for a small part of the background to become a visible border. 8. Suggestions for creating the complimentary and analogous color schemes: Color Adjustments, Color Balance, Replace Color, Hue/Saturation, Color Mode Overlay, etc. Magic wand range adjustments will help you select colors to be replaced. Extra Credit Second Color Assignment: Color Scheme Using 9 images.
