MOM’S APRON TOY HOLDER SUPPLIES

You will need 11/4 yds of 44"w border print fabric (ours has a rickrack design), 14" x 28" vintage embroidered table runner, and two 8" square lace-edged handkerchiefs.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. With border at one long edge, cut one 281/2" x 40" fabric piece for skirt. Cut one 5" x 20" piece for waist and two 3" x 39" pieces for ties. 2. For pockets, matching short edges, fold table runner in half; cut along fold. Fold handkerchiefs in half diagonally; cut along folds. Matching raw edges and overlapping as necessary to fit pocket, pin two handkerchief pieces to top edge of each pocket. Press top edge of pockets 1/2" to wrong sides; topstitch to secure. Pin each pocket to front of skirt 2" above border print and 4" from side. Topstitch sides and bottoms of pockets to secure. 3. Press one short edge and both long edges of apron ties 1/4" to wrong side twice; topstitch to secure.

4. Press bottom edge of skirt 1/4" to wrong side twice; topstitch to secure. Repeat to press and sew sides of skirt. 5. To gather skirt, baste 1/4" from top edge. Pulling thread ends, gather top of skirt to 19"; tie thread ends to secure. 6. Press short edges and one long edge of waist 1/2" to wrong side; topstitch to secure. Matching right sides and raw edges and using 1/2" seam allowance, sew waist to top of skirt. Press seam allowance toward waist. Matching wrong sides, fold waist in half lengthwise. Leaving short ends open, hand sew remaining long edge to back of skirt. 7. Insert 1/2" of unfinished end of each tie into an opening in waist. Topstitch to secure.
