•People respond who are not trained in Crisis and Trauma Response

•Community Individuals have not been “vetted” prior to the crisis.

Learning Objective #1 Participants will:

• Understand and identify the impact of the Human Stress Response on individuals following a traumatic incident.

• It is a Physiological Response • We all experience it • Not everyone experiences it the same way • The brain responds to Perceived Potential Crises as well as Lived Crises.

• Recognize and differentiate between signs and symptoms of normal Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) versus the later onset of PostTraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms.

Normal Reactions to Post Traumatic Stress: Remember Various Signs and Symptoms are Normal immediately following a Traumatic Event or Crisis. It is the Brain’s way to heal. Not everyone has everything. Reactions can change frequently.

• Develop and implement practical, effective techniques to calm and support individuals immediately following a traumatic incident or crisis situation.
