April 2015 THE SOCIETY OF MANUFACTURING ENGINEERS WICHITA CHAPTER 52 Chapter 52 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers serves its members and the manufacturing community through the advancement of professionalism, knowledge and the promotion of manufacturing education. Chairman notes- SME
Chapter 52,
04/15/15 I always hear the words, What can SME do for me? Or, SME can’t do anything for me. Let me give you an answer to both. SME, on the local level is chapter 52. The local chapter provides its members chances to tour local areas of industry. The tours are held once monthly, Sept thru May each year. After the tours there is an informal get together for dinner and a chance to discuss with other professionals the methods of manufacturing. Chapter 52 is involved in the WITS, (Wichita Industrial Trade Show),that is held every two years.(for more infosee this website: http://witshow.org/. Chapter 52 has affiliations with all the local colleges and surrounding community colleges. SME members assist with the engineering and engineering technology programs by judging contests, giving lectures and assisting with engineering designs, and mentoring students. Chapter 52, has a local certification program that can assist you with certification as a Certified Manufacturing Technologist, or Certified Manufacturing Engineer. Chapter 52 has a scholarship program to assist engineering and engineering technology students. Chapter 52 also has some time for fun with the annual Sweetheart Dinner every February and a family day, usually in September every year. Chapter 52 has a strong bond among its members, and industry. We learn from each other, and enjoy our friends and professional associates. With Chapter 52, there is always something to learn, and opportunities to get involved because there is always something to do. SME on the national level offers this plus much more. Various trade shows across the United States. There are nine shows between now and the end of the year. SME members get a discount to some shows. For details see: https://www.sme.org/
Mark your calendars The next WITS show is October 20 through the 22
WITS committee is asking for help. Volunteers needed for set up, monitor doors, help during the show and tear down. Special need for fork lift drivers. Lots of learning opportunities as well. Every
