STINSONS FLIGHT CAPTAIN BRIEFING BOARD By Howard Ham
The National Convention was well planned and those of us able to attend had a nice time. Our Flight can be quite proud of the awards we received; in Category D (large membership category) Stinsons Flight was recognized as the top in 2016 and it was an honor to accept it on behalf of last year's Flt Capt Magnum Drichta and his superb leadership. We were recognized for our membership recruitment efforts in same category and we are awarded $1,000 Spencer Scholarship. It will be used in this calendar year's selection process for scholarship winners. On March 30th, one of our very own, Olga Custodio, was inducted into the San Antonio Aviation Hall of Fame. What an honor to be grouped with a former US Senator from Texas, an astronaut with a San Antonio connection, and others that included Daedalian connections, Carl Crane and Chas. Ocker. Accepting respectively for the widows of these inductees were former Stinsons Flight Captains, Bill Stewart and Bill Ercoline. We are still in need of volunteers for a number of Flight Staff officers. Joe Bush is now in transition for the position of Treasurer and Membership; we need to render top notch support for this changeover. Hangar 9 comes again into the spotlight. Next month on the 20th of May, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas/DRT are flying lead on a 'World War I Centennial Celebration.' It kicks off at 11:00 AM with a meal and adjourning around 2:30PM ; cost is $40. Most appropriate that in 1917 we have this Hangar #9 at Brooks built and now remains the only World War I standing after extensive restoration and renovation. If able, do consider attending this event. Blue skies and tailwinds - V V, Howard April 2017 – P. 2
