This week’s sermon The Kingdom of God: Are You In? Mark 1:14-28 The kingdom of God is currently an invisible kingdom made up of citizens who have joined by repenting and being born again.
In the kingdom of God, Jesus calls people to follow him.
In the kingdom of God, Jesus’ word is THE authority.
In the kingdom of God, Jesus commands even the demons.
The most important question: Are you in?
Digging Deeper into the Message Read Luke 5:1-11.
Community Group ICEBREAKER: What does it mean to follow Jesus?
What does Jesus ask Simon (Peter) to do in verse 4?
REVIEW: Read Mark 1:14-28
And what is Simon’s response?
REFLECTION QUESTIONS: When Jesus called these four men to follow him, what did they know about him so far? (look at Luke 5:1-11 also) What questions do you think they had about following him? What do you think convinced them to go? In your own experience, what convinced you to follow Jesus? What things still hold you back? Is there something that you need to put down (like the nets the fishermen walked away from) to follow him now?
What impact did this have on Simon? (verse 9)
Why do you think Simon asked Jesus to “depart” from him?
What was Jesus’ response to Simon’s request for Jesus to leave? (verse 10)
This experienced changed Simon’s life forever! Has Jesus called you to follow Him? When? How?
How has that impacted you and how has it changed your life?
Why does Jesus speak with authority? How does the authority he spoke with carry over to the Bible? Do you trust the Bible to be the number one authority in your life? Why or why not? Do you feel like you know how to read the Bible correctly? What things make that difficult, if any? How can you become more confident in reading the Bible? What does 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tell us about the Bible? How can this help us in our Bible reading and study? How should these passages (Mark 1 and 2 Timothy 3) inspire us to read the Bible?
APPLICATION QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS: How will you apply what we’ve discussed as you follow Jesus this week? Is there an attitude or a habit that you need to adopt or apply? Is there something you need to leave behind to follow him?
