On behalf of the Friends of Pinchot State Park Board of Directors, I would like to thank our members, volunteers, private donors, grantors, park staff and park management for all their help throughout the year. Without their support, many of the environmental and recreational projects at the park would not have been possible. I would also like to thank the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and DCNR volunteers. Projects worked on throughout the year include: new playground equipment (campground), habitat restoration (fish cribs), fundraisers (firewood, ice, clothing), nature center hosting, trail maintenance, public programs, various administrative duties, and other odd jobs. During the 2013 year, there were 48 volunteers who provided 3486 project hours. Digger bee burrow.
Once her home is built, she makes many trips to collect sugary nectar from nearby wildflowers. She takes the nectar back to her home and places it at the far end of each tunnel. She then lays one egg on top of each glob of nectar. When the larva hatch from the eggs they will feed on the nectar and eventually emerge as adult digger bees. ■
