Location: 1624 W Baltimore St, Baltimore, MD 21223 Undergraduate Submission Studio Project Project Synopsis: This project was to design a local community center adjacent to West Baltimore St. The community center was expected to be a multipurpose building that included several programs such as an auditorium, clinic, aerial silk practice area, library, and office suite. Having done a thorough site analysis of the distressed area of Baltimore city, I decided to use an existing bike path as a solution. The new design seeks healthier and active interaction within the community by creating pathways both inside and outside the building.

design concepts
• EFFECTIVE USE OF AN EXISTING BIKEPATH • MORE INTERACON WITHIN A COMMUNITY Our everyday life is repetitive and automatic. Students walk to school, workers drive to their office, and elderly who are incapable of walking are forced to be stuck at home. People’s life are dispersed, personal connection is weakened. While people chat online, many often don’t recognize their actual neighbors at all. The project attempts to create a space where diverse kinds of people in the community can reunite, and discover own identity within the community.

ACCESSIBILITY The site takes up one entire block, located at the intersection of West Baltimore Street and North Mount Street. Although situated in one of the distressed neighborhoods in Baltimore city, the site analysis shows various transportational advantages. First, the area is adjacent to an existing bike lane that extends through the city including many popular sections of the downtown.
