Questions After each talk the speaker will remain standing and the adjudicator is required to ask them a question concerning their talk. The question should not be testing their scholarship but more about their interest and enthusiasm.

ARTiculation Prize 2016 Adjudicators Brief Adjudicators of heats are required to ask speakers a question immediately following their talk which will allow the student to demonstrate their appreciation and/or enthusiasm for the subject of their talk. Adjudicators are asked to select a first, second and third prize winner. The First prize speaker from each of the ten regional heats will give their talk at the ARTiculation Finals at Clare College, Cambridge. Before announcing the selected winners adjudicators are asked to give a brief positive comment about each presentation in the order they were given. Adjudicators’ Guidelines Adjudicators are asked to assess each presentation as a whole looking at: Content: Structure: Delivery:

including research, methodology, creative and original thought and use of Illustrations including cohesion, progress, theme, conclusion and timing including clarity, accessibility, and the speaker’s ability to engage with both the audience and the chosen artwork.

Adjudicators are asked to give equal consideration to speakers who show a notable commitment and interest for their subject and give the listeners a deeper insight into, and enthusiasm for, the artwork being discussed. Adjudicators are encouraged to look for students who show qualities and/or abilities that they consider have particular potential. All adjudicators are asked to kindly offer additional feedback to all the speakers and can choose to provide further support for their chosen speaker prior to the finals.

Interval There will be a short interval between the first four speakers and the last four which will give adjudicators an opportunity to read their notes. The audience will be encouraged to leave their seats during the interval. Time Keeping The talks are limited to ten minutes. Should they go over speakers will be given time warnings by RCET staff. All talks will be stopped by RCET staff if they go over 12 minutes. The timings of all the talks will be given to the adjudicators immediately after the last talk. Conclusion At the end of the event the audience will remain seated, talking among themselves before adjudicators are ready to announce their decision. Adjudicators are allowed to exit the room and to consult with selected mentors. It is asked that they do not discuss the judging process with the Roche Court Staff during the heat itself. Before announcing the selected winners adjudicators will say a brief positive comment about each presentation in the order they were given. The names of the speakers with the name of their school will then be revealed for the first time on the screen. Winners Adjudicators are asked to select a first, second and third prize winner to be announced in the reverse order with a brief explanation of why they were selected. The First prize speaker from each of the ten regional heats will go on to give their talk at the ARTiculation Conference to be held on 4 March 2016 at Clare College, Cambridge. There the ARTiculation Finals Adjudicator will select the three 2016 ARTiculation Prize winners. Prizes The three selected speakers will each come forward to be awarded a book and/or certificate from the adjudicator.
