As SCIENTISTS we will be learning to identify different types deciduous and evergreen trees. We will then record the different trees we find in our school grounds. We will also be learning about the different parts of a plant.

As WRITERS we will be looking at traditional tales. Year 1 will be focussing on The Three Little Pigs and Year 2 will be focussing on Little Red Riding Hood. As an end product we will then be writing our own stories set in a wood. Our non fiction unit will be instructions. We will be planting beans and then writing instructions for how to make beans. To follow on from this, in the second part of the summer term, we will be looking at Jack and the Beanstalk.

As ENGINEERS we will be designing and building sculptures made from natural materials. We will be working with local artist Michelle Davy to create sculptures for our ‘Art in the Park’ event. We will also be designing and making bird feeders to hang on the trees around school. In P.E we will be working indoors and outdoors. Year 1 will be doing PE with Tigers Trust outdoors and doing dance indoors. Year 2 will be working on multi-skills outdoors and indoors we will be working on dance and gymnastics.

We will be planting our own flowers and investigating what pants need to survive.

As ARTISTS we will be exploring how we can turn nature into art. We will be going on a nature hunt and then using our findings to create woodland collages. We will also be creating pictures from bark rubbing and leaf printing. In RE Year 1 will be looking at Places of Worship and Year 2 will be investigating the question; What are the Big Questions? In PSHCE we will continue to develop our skills and knowledge through Jigsaw. City of Culture- During the summer term we will be looking at the theme ‘Roots and Routes’ to follow on with the Hull City of Culture Seasons. We will also be hosting our own event called ‘ Art in the Park’ on the 29th and 30th June.

As MATHEMATICIANS we will be learning about shape, space and measure. We will be identifying 2D and 3D shapes and looking at their properties. Year 2 will also be looking at lines of symmetry within shapes. In our measure unit we will be learning how to measure length, mass, time and capacity. Year 1 will also be learning about money and different types of coins. In our topic lessons we will be making tally charts to record different trees. Year 1 will then be creating a pictogram and Year 2 will be creating a block diagram. In COMPUTING we will be becoming researchers. We will be researching woodland animals and the creating a PowerPoint on these animals to present to the rest of the class.
