How do I know for sure I am saved?

Assurance: How can you be sure? 

There are some things that are easy to be sure about.  I know that ….. ○ today is Sunday ○ J ○ I am a human

There are other things which are harder to be sure about.  I know that…. ○ today may change my life forever ○ L ○ I will be __ height when I am 26

Assurance: God’s Word Gives Us Confidence 

Being saved may seem like one of those can-you-really-know items, but God has given us clear principles in His Word so that we can be sure about our own salvation (1John 5:13)

Assurance: Faith 

We can be sure of our salvation if we have called on the name of Jesus Christ as our only LORD and Savior (1John 4:2-3; 1Cor 12:3)  He alone can take away your sins  He is your only LORD  More for your own assurance-do you believe this

now?  Harder to tell if someone else is sincere or what they really mean

Assurance: The Holy Spirit 

We can be sure of our salvation because of the Spirit’s presence in our lives. (Rom 8:14-16)  The Spirit softens our hearts to know God

personally, to cry “Daddy!” (Rom 8:15)  The Spirit convicts us of our sin

○ John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the

world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment”

 The Spirit produces fruit in our lives ○ Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,

peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control”

Assurance: Obedience & Love 

We can be sure of our salvation because of our obedience and love towards God and others. (1John 2:3-6; 3:7-11)  Does this mean true Christians never sin?  “makes a practice of sinning” (3:8)  True Christians understand the humility

of faith and repentance  Our salvation makes us obedient, our obedience does not make us saved  Grace before works, not works before grace

Assurance 

How can I know I am saved?  Do you believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God

who died on the cross and rose again for your salvation?  Has your heart been softened to the Lord’s presence? Have you called on His name in prayer, felt His conviction over sin, or experienced the joy of His love?  Do you see the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life? Have you grown in love and obedience to the Lord and to others?

So What 

Christians:  Rejoice in your salvation! You have eternal life, a

relationship with your Creator, and you will go to heaven!  Take risks! ○ Be bold in your faith for the Lord ○ Do not be so afraid of failure that you never boldly

step out in faith  Give assurance to others. Share the good news!

Are you saved?  Today, you can know for sure that you are a

Christian and in right relationship with God— Believe in Jesus.
