In 1987, Reverend Monty Lewis incorporated Bridges of Canada in Fredericton, New Brunswick, originally under the name Cons for Christ. An ex-convict and mentee of Bishop Costantino, Rev. Lewis believed in the power of the Bridges of America treatment model, and sought to provide his fellow Canadians and neighbours with the same “bridge” to productive lives after imprisonment. Among his various accolades, the late Rev. Lewis received the Solicitor General of Canada’s first-ever award for Public Safety in Canada, a Peace Maker Award from the Correctional Service of Canada, and both the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and Diamond Jubilee Medal, in honour of his significant contributions to his community.
Our Ambassadors Bridges of Canada Chaplains facilitate a broad range of religious services. They provide opportunities for inmates throughout New Brunswick to pursue individual religious beliefs and practices of their own choosing in a manner that is consistent with the security and good order of the facility. They also help inmates enhance their knowledge of and commitment to the beliefs and practices of their faith.
