QUICK HITS
l The Longhorns enter Friday’s Big 12 Conference opener with a 14-6 all-time record in league lidlifters and have won eight of their last nine (lost at Baylor in 2016). UT has never faced Oklahoma State in a Big 12 opener and enters the weekend with a 33-14 all-time series advantage over the Cowgirls. Texas has won the last eight games in the series (last loss in Austin on April 25, 2014) and is 14-6 at OSU. l Redshirt sophomore pitcher Erica Wright is currently riding a streak of 13.1 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to March 14 at Loyola Marymount, just 1.2 innings from tying her career long of 15 straight scoreless frames from April 11-24, 2015. She came extremely close to throwing her first career no-hitter during the 4-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton (March 18). The Huntington, Texas, native didn’t allow a hit until permitting a bloop single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The one-hit shutout marked the fourth of Wright’s career and her first since beating Oklahoma State, 11-0 (5) back on May 1, 2015. l On Wednesday night during a 4-0 win over McNeese State at McCombs Field, Texas utilized all 20 players on its roster while all five pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout. Each hurler tossed at least one scoreless inning with starter Erica Wright and winning pitcher Paige von Sprecken (in relief) both firing two frames. l The Longhorns are currently on pace to break the school single-season walks record. With 114 so far through 28 games, if Texas continues averaging 4.1 walks-per-game, it would finish with 217, four above the all-time record of 213 set back in 2013. l Texas has had a load of success with two outs in 2017, hitting .323 (87-for-269) while registering 61 of its 139 total RBIs (44%) with two outs in a inning. In all, 15 different Longhorns batters own two-out RBIs, led by eight from freshman infielder Jade Gortarez and seven each from senior first baseman Kelli Hanzel and sophomore outfielder Reagan Hathaway. l It's been quite an exhausting late February through March so far for the Longhorns as far as travel goes. Since leaving for the trip to the Mary Nutter Classic on Feb. 22, Texas was on the road for 18 of 26 possible days (until returning from its Spring Break Trip on March 18) and four consecutive weekends. In all, counting trips to Palm Springs, Calif., Tucson, Ariz., and Los Angeles/Long Beach/Fullerton, Calif., the Burnt Orange & White have traveled over 7,800 miles. Add in this weekend's upcoming trip to Stillwater, Okla., to open Big 12 play and that total will rise to nearly 9,000 miles and 22 of 34 possible days. l Texas rated No. 21 in the initial release of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) and has played the fifth-toughest schedule in NCAA Division I. The Longhorns currently possess 13 victories over teams ranked in the RPI Top 100, including four wins over RPI Top 50 foes in Tennessee, Notre Dame, Missouri and McNeese State. Other triumphs have come against Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton (two), Colorado State (two), Louisiana Tech (two) and Indiana (two). In all, 10 of Texas’ 11 losses thus far in 2017 have come against RPI Top 33 teams, with seven of those occurring by three runs or less and three by just a single tally (Arizona, UCLA, Texas State). l The Burnt Orange & White have played 15 of their 28 contests against teams that were ranked or receiving votes in the USA Today/ National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) or ESPN.com/USA Softball polls at time of playing, while eight of those tilts have been against top 15-rated foes. l A year after seeing her average drop from .350 as a sophomore (2015) to .225 as a junior (2016), it seems that senior shortstop Devon Tunning is revitalized at the plate in 2017. The Henderson, Texas, native is currently batting .360, is ninth in the Big 12 Conference in slugging percentage at .573, has reached base safely in 25 of 28 games and has hit safely in 20 of 28 contests. After entering the season with nine career HR’s (career-high seven in 2015), Tunning already owns a team-high four dingers over this year’s initial 28 games. l Texas’ schedule has been incredibly difficult to this point in 2017 as 12 of UT’s 20 opponents played currently possess winning records, six are currently ranked in the USA Today/NFCA coaches poll and 10 of them own at least 19 wins. Included are four teams with 23 or more victories, No. 5 Arizona (29-1), No. 6 Washington (24-3), No. 8 Minnesota (25-2) and No. 20 Tennessee (23-5). Overall, the Longhorns’ opponents (as of March 23) are 336-217-2 (.607). l If Texas is leading after four innings of play so far in 2017, you can virtually put a check in the win column as the Longhorns are 13-1 when leading after four and five innings and 12-1 when ahead after six innings of action. l Getting off to a quick start seems important for the 2017 Texas squad as the Longhorns are 13-4 when scoring first and 10-3 when tallying at least once in the first inning. On the other hand, UT is just 4-7 when its opponent puts the initial run on the board. l If Texas homers, it seems to have a lot to do with its success so far in 2017 as the Longhorns are 12-1 when hitting at least one over the fence. Conversely, UT is just 5-10 when it doesn’t manage a single HR. l Miscues can change a game, and that has been true for Texas in 2017. UT is 9-2 if it is error-free and just 8-9 with at least one error. l Since the beginning of the 2015 season, the nucleus of this year’s Longhorns squad has demonstrated a resilience and “never quit” attitude in fighting back from deficits. Texas owns 29 come-from-behind victories (those where UT trailed at ANY point in a game) and 12 total “true” walk-off wins combined, including two walk-offs this year to beat Louisiana Tech during the Texas Invitational on Feb. 17, 6-5, and to down Notre Dame at the Mary Nutter Classic on Feb. 23, 4-3.

GAME NOTES HIGH IN THE RPI! Texas ranked No. 21 in the initial release (March 20) of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) and has played the fifth-toughest schedule in NCAA Division I. Top Five RPI 1. Washington 2. Alabama 3. Arizona 4. Texas A&M 5. Baylor 21. TEXAS
Top Five Schedule Strength 1. Northwestern 2. UCLA 3. Alabama 4. Ohio State 5. TEXAS
ELLSWORTH IS EXCITING! Texas freshman catcher Taylor Ellsworth has started to settle in and show the promise that has UT coaches so excited they agreed to have the Georgetown, Texas, native become the first player in Longhorns softball history to skip her senior high school season to join the program. Over her last seven starts behind the dish (dating back to Feb. 25 against #21/19 Arizona State), Ellsworth is hitting a remarkable .684 (13-for-19) with six runs scored, two doubles, her first two collegiate HR’s, eight RBIs and a 1.813 OPS while reaching base safely by hit or walk in 17 of her 23 total plate appearances. She’s also currently riding a career-long seven-game hitting streak. REVOLVING LINE-UP CARD Texas has had some difficulty settling on a batting line-up during the 2017 campaign as the Longhorns have utilized 25 different one-through-nine combinations on the pre-game card through the opening 28 games of the season. The most that UT has utilized the same starting nine was three times against No. 15/13 Tennessee, No. 8/7 Washington and Texas State. That line-up was: Wong, Tunning, Hathaway, Krpec, Alcozer, Gortarez, Leahy, Felix, Hanzel. LOADS OF LEADOFF SUCCESS The 2017 Longhorns are making a habit out of getting the leadoff batter on base to start an inning. Through the opening 28 games of the season, Texas lead-off hitters in any inning are reaching at a 46.5% success rate (86-for-185). The most successful practitioners thus far include senior outfielder Stephanie Wong (17-for-33, .515), senior shortstop Devon Tunning (17-for-28, .607), senior designated player Mickenzi Krpec (7-for-13, .538) and freshman catcher Taylor Ellsworth (7-for-9, .778). **Texas has scored 116 of its 153 total runs (76%) during innings where it has gotten the leadoff hitter on via hit, walk, error or hit-by-pitch. Wong (12 times), Tunning (nine times) and senior Kelli Hanzel (five times) have been the most successful in starting run-scoring innings out of the 49 total times Texas has gotten the leadoff on and subsequently scored. THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO BE ON BASE Texas has numerous offensive players that always seem to find a way to get on base at least once during a game via hit, walk or hit by pitch. In fact, EIGHT different Texas players have been on in at least 13 games played to this point in 2017. A complete list is below:

PERSONAL MILESTONES FOR TIARRA With a complete-game effort during a 2-1 loss to Texas State (March 1), senior left-hander Tiarra Davis became just the fourth pitcher in Texas history to toss 500 career innings. The Henderson, Texas, native also became just the sixth UT pitcher to reach the 50-career win mark by tossing five innings of three-hit ball with seven strikeouts during a 10-1 (6 inn.) victory over Cal State Fullerton (March 18). Davis enters the series at Oklahoma State just 47 strikeouts away from reaching 500 K’s in her career (would be fifth Texas pitcher to reach that mark). SO CLOSE TO BREAKING THROUGH The Longhorns have demonstrated a “never quit” attitude throughout the early 2017 season, coming frustratingly close to rallying back to either tie or take the lead late in the majority of its 11 losses. In fact, in each of UT’s last eight losses (six against nationally-ranked teams). Texas has had the tying or go-ahead run either on base or at the plate during the fifth inning or later (including all three games at No. 6 Arizona) but couldn’t find that one big hit needed. The late game instances over the eight seven losses are listed below: Opponent at No. 6 Arizona (game three)

OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS! Texas is getting a solid effort out of its bullpen so far in 2017, with its five pitchers combining for 27 relief appearances. While the 2.68 overall relief ERA isn’t gaudy, if you take out just a pair of relief efforts in losses to No. 16/14 Minnesota and No. 21/19 Arizona State, the staff bullpen ERA drops to 1.62! Two pitchers have really stood out as far as relief work goes with sophomore lefthander Brooke Bolinger possessing a 0.81 ERA (allowing two earned runs in 17.1 innings over seven appearances) and redshirt sophomore righthander Erica Wright owning a 1.10 ERA (allowed two earned runs in 12.2 innings over four appearances). The top three most utilized Texas relievers this season are below: Player Inn. Texas has made the “Big Inning” a part of its repertoire right from the start of the 2017 campaign. So far in the first 28 games, the Longhorns have plated at least three runs in an inning 21 TIMES. In fact, UT has posted at least one threerun frame in 16 OF ITS 28 TOTAL GAMES. The largest outburst thus far was a 10-run sixth in a 10-1 (6 inn.) win at Long Beach State on March 15. “WHY KNOT TEXAS 2017?” That’s the new motto coined by this year’s team. Back in January, new assistant coach Tripp MacKay tied knots in the ends of black ropes, that are being worn around the wrist by each member of the squad and coaching/support staff this season, to represent “holding the rope,” in supporting each other through good times and bad. Coach Clark also asked the team during the preseason to strive for consistent effort and a championship mindset throughout 2017. D.I.R.T. The foundation of the Texas softball program is D.I.R.T. which stands for Discipline, Integrity, Respect and Teamwork. Those four words serve as guidelines for how every UT softball player should strive to live both on and off the diamond. Factors involved include having a championship mindset every day, making the right social decisions, holding yourself and your teammates accountable and doing the work in the classroom. Texas even has warm-up shirts with the D.I.R.T. motto written on the back. WE DON’T MIND EXTRA SOFTBALL Apparently Texas doesn’t mind having to work a little overtime on the diamond as the Longhorns are 72-42-1 all-time in extra innings and have won nine of their last 14 such match-ups dating back to 2013. The Longhorns were a stellar 4-1 when forced into extra frames in 2016 with eight-inning wins over North Carolina, Arkansas, UTSA and Iowa and an eight-inning loss to No. 18 Arizona. Thus far in 2017, UT has dropped its only extra-inning affair in nine innings at Cal State Fullerton on March 17, 3-2.

2017 TEXAS SOFTBALL GAME NOTES A TRUE PITCHING...STAFF Talk about the definition of a true pitching STAFF. Just five games into the 2017 season, Texas had already utilized ALL FIVE pitchers on its roster. Keep this in mind, in the history of the program, the Longhorns have only used five pitchers during an entire season on three occasions: 2009, 2005 and 1998. So far this season, all five pitchers have made at least two starts and tossed at least 20.2 innings. DAVIS EARNED BIG 12 ACCOLADES Following an outstanding weekend from the circle during the prestigious Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., Texas softball senior pitcher Tiarra Davis was chosen as the Big 12 Conference’s Pitcher of the Week for February 28. The honor marked the first of the 2017 campaign for the Longhorns and the second of Davis’ career after a previous selection as the league’s pitcher of the week back on May 3, 2016. The Henderson, Texas, native was terrific from the circle at the Mary Nutter Classic, going 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA, two complete games, a .226 batting average against and 11 strikeouts over 14 innings of work in beating both No. 20/22 Missouri and No. 15/13 Tennessee. AGAINST THE LONE STAR STATE! The Longhorns have always had a tremendous amount of success against programs from the “Lone Star State,” as UT holds a 313-78-1 (.800) overall record versus a combined 20 Texas teams. The Burnt Orange & White leads the all-time series over 19 of those 20 programs with the lone blemish being a 21-21 series tie against longtime rival Texas A&M. The Horns play 15 games against Texas teams in 2017, facing-off against Texas State (twice), UTSA (twice), Houston (twice), Texas Tech (three times), Texas Southern, North Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Baylor (three times). UT is 1-1 against Texas teams so far in 2017 with a 2-1 loss to Texas State on March 1 and a 7-2 win over UTSA on March 8. THE SCORING STREAK FINALLY ENDED Texas ventured to face No. 6 Arizona having scored in 50 consecutive contests, dating back to a 1-0 shutout loss to Iowa on March 16, 2016, in Honolulu, Hawai’i, during the 2016 Rainbow Wahine Classic, before being blanked in the series opener by the Wildcats, 3-0 (March 3). The Longhorns streak ended just six games short of tying the program record for longest consecutive-game scoring streak of 56 contests, established from May 4, 2013-April 18, 2014. Longest Consecutive Scoring Streaks (over more than one season) 1) 56 games - May 4, 2013 at Oklahoma State to April 18, 2014 at Oklahoma 2) 50 games - March 17, 2016 to March 3, 2017 3) 43 games - April 23, 1997 at UTSA to March 22, 1998 vs. Arizona 4) 37 games - Feb. 10, 2011 vs. Louisville to April 10, 2011 at Nebraska 5) 36 games - May 21, 2011 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette to April 6, 2012 vs. Missouri 36 games - Feb. 4, 1998 vs. St. Edward’s to March 22, 1998 vs. Arizona THE MARY NUTTER CLASSIC...BECOMING A TEXAS TRADITION Texas has made a habit of participating in the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (formerly the Palm Springs & Cathedral City Classic) in Cathedral City, Calif. The Longhorns made their 11th all-time appearance in the event over Feb. 23-26, went 4-2 overall and now possess a 38-19 overall record. Texas is 14-12 against ranked teams in the event and faced four ranked squads at the 2017 MNC for the second straight visit after doing so in 2015 (wins over No. 8 Georgia and No. 12 UCLA and losses to No. 18 Missouri and No. 24 Notre Dame). UT made previous visits in 2005 (3-2), 2006 (5-0), 2007 (4-1), 2008 (3-2), 2009 (4-1), 2010 (3-2), 2011 (4-2), 2012 (4-1), 2014 (2-3) and 2015 (2-3). HELMET STICKERS FOR TERRY The Longhorns lost a member of its family this past offseason as Texas softball radio broadcaster Terry Lewis passed away suddenly in August of 2016 at the age of 58. A true fan of all things Burnt Orange & White, he started calling UT games back in 2013 as the Burnt Orange & White made an impressive run to the semifinals at the Women’s College World Series. His dedication to the program continued all the way through the 2016 campaign, the first that saw every game home and away broadcast both on the web and back in Austin through the Austin Sports Network. Because of what he meant to everyone associated with Texas softball, the team is wearing helmet stickers throughout the 2017 season that say “TL” to honor Terry and held a ceremony for him prior to the Indiana game on Feb. 16th where his wife Missy threw out the ceremonial first pitch. THAT’S A LOT OF SENIORS! With seven seniors on the roster in 2017, this ties the 2005 Texas Longhorns squad for the most seniors on the roster in a single season in program history. That 2005 senior class consisted of pitcher Lizi Sowers, third baseman Wynter Turner, outfielder Lacy Robinson, outfielder Monica Askew, outfielder Melanie Jarrett, pitcher Amy Bradford and first baseman Alexis Garcia. That group (with a junior Cat Osterman throwing in the circle) went 49-13 overall, finished third in the Big 12 and advanced to the WCWS. SEASON OPENERS = WINS Texas owns an INCREDIBLE season-opening winning streak dating all the way back to the initial varsity season for the program in 1997. The Longhorns have won ALL 21 of their season openers, including high-profile wins over No. 3 UCLA (2007), Florida State (2009), No. 20 DePaul (2010), Louisville (2011) and No. 17 LSU (2014). During that stretch, Texas has registered 13 shutouts and outscored its opponents by a combined 141-11. The streak grew during the 2017 season as UT blanked Colorado State on Feb. 10, 8-0 (5 inn.). WELCOME BACK ERICA! After missing the entire 2016 season because of a rib injury on her right side, redshirt sophomore Erica Wright has now made her return to the circle. In her first action since 2015 during the Texas Classic, the Huntington, Texas, native allowed two earned runs on just two hits with three strikeouts over five combined innings of work against #16/14 Minnesota and Maryland. She picked up her first pitching victory in two seasons in relief against Louisiana Tech on Feb. 18, as the Longhorns won, 9-2. After being cleared by doctors back in the fall, the right-hander began throwing again during October of 2016 and continues in an attempt to work her way back into her freshman form. Back during her rookie campaign in 2015, the NFCA All-Central Region selection served as Texas’ ace, posting an 18-9 overall record, a 2.42 ERA and 178 strikeouts over 170.2 innings with seven solo shutouts and 14 complete games. DAUNTING SCHEDULE IN 2017 Texas is challenging itself schedule-wise during the upcoming 2017 campaign with 28 games slated against 16 teams that reached the 2016 NCAA Field of 64 (Oklahoma, UCLA, Arizona, Washington, Missouri, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Long Beach State, Baylor, Cal State Fullerton, Tennessee, Minnesota, Texas State, McNeese State, Arizona State and Notre Dame). EIGHT OF THE GAMES AGAINST 2016 NCAA TEAMS WILL BE CONTESTED BY THE END OF FEBRUARY! Along the way, the Longhorns will face-off against a pair of last season’s Women’s College World Series participants in eventual national champion Oklahoma and UCLA as well as five NCAA Super Regional qualifiers (Oklahoma, UCLA, Arizona, Washington and Missouri). LOADS OF RANKED TEAMS ON THE SLATE! In all, Texas will face NINE MEMBERS OF BOTH THE NFCA AND USA SOFTBALL PRESEASON TOP 25 POLLS (24 total games against NFCA poll teams and 23 against USA Softball poll teams) as well as four teams receiving votes in either ranking (Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State). (3 games), #22 Notre Dame (1 game) FEARSOME DURING FEBRUARY! Under the guidance of head coach Connie Clark, Texas has proven to be a fearsome force during the opening month of February. The Longhorns hold a stellar 258-91-2 overall record during the month, having won approximately 74% of their games. UT finished the month of February with an 11-5 record this season (.688) after going 14-2 in February during last season’s 2016 campaign, tying for the fifth-best monthly winning percentage at .875. NEW FACE IN THE DUGOUT During the offseason, Texas head coach Connie Clark brought in former Scrap Yard Dawgs (NPF) Director of Player Development/Co-Head Coach and former University of Oklahoma hitting coach Tripp MacKay to replace the departed Corrie Hill as an assistant for the Longhorns. During a stint stretching from 2007-2015, he helped guide the Sooners to a 389-97 overall record, eight consecutive NCAA postseason appearances, including four Women’s College World Series berths (national runner-up in 2012), five Big 12 Conference regular-season titles, two Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship crowns and the 2013 NCAA Division I National Championship. For his efforts, he shared 2013 NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year honors and four straight NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) accolades. Among the numerous individual offensive standouts MacKay helped tutor at Oklahoma were Lauren Chamberlain, who completed her playing days as the NCAA’s career HR leader (95 HR’s), two-time USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts and multi-time All-American Shelby Pendley (finished sixth on the NCAA career HR list with 84). LOADS OF PRODUCTION RETURNING Texas is returning five everyday positional starters and 13 letter winners for the 2017 campaign that combined to total 60% of the runs, 64% of the hits, 57% of the doubles, 55% of the HR’s and 65% of the RBIs from last season’s 38-win squad. UT will also be bringing back all three starting pitchers from last year and has returned sophomore right-hander Erica Wright, who was forced to redshirt during the 2016 campaign because of an injury. AND THE BIG 12 PRESEASON SURVEY...SAYS! Texas was chosen to finish second (with one first-place vote) in the annual Big 12 Conference preseason poll as voted by the league’s coaches. UT has now been picked to finish in the Big 12 Conference’s top three for seven consecutive seasons. The Sooners nabbed the top position for the eighth time in the last nine seasons after reaping six of the seven possible first-place votes (coaches couldn’t vote for their own team) and 36 total points. The Longhorns garnered the remaining first-place nod and 30 total points in rating second. Baylor was third with 26 total points, while Oklahoma State (22 points), Kansas (14 points), Texas Tech (13 points) and Iowa State (six points) rounded out positions four through seven in the preseason league standings. TURN ON THE TUBE TO SEE TEXAS IN 2017 As usual, there will be plenty of chances to see Texas softball play on television in 2017, 28 in all. Longhorn Network, the 24/7 home for UT athletics, will broadcast 25 of 26 Texas home softball games this season. FOX Sports Net (Regional) will show UT’s home match-up vs. Baylor on May 6. Texas’ game at UCLA on March 12 has been picked up by Pac-12 Network while UT’s match-up at Kansas on April 28 will now be broadcast by FOX College Sports Pacific. Additional TV dates could be added as the season continues. A QUICK LOOK TO THE FUTURE! Back in November of 2016, Texas head softball coach Connie Clark and the University of Texas softball program announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the 2017-18 academic school year. Signees include (Position/Hometown/High school/Travel Ball Team): Ariana Adams (RHP/Magnolia, Texas/Magnolia West/ Scrap Yard Dawgs), Janae Jefferson (OF/Humble, Texas/Nimitz Senior/Texas Aces Express Gold), Chloe Romero (RHP/Helendale, Calif./Academy of Careers & Exploration/ California Cruisers) and Mary Katherine Tedder (IF/Hoover, Ala./Spain Park/Birmingham Thunderbolts). A native of Magnolia, Texas, Adams ventures to the Forty Acres with numerous accolades from the diamond in tow. During her interscholastic pitching career for head coach Sheryl Tamborello at Magnolia West H.S., she has registered a combined 1.20 ERA with 432 strikeouts over 397 innings of work. As a junior in 2016, Adams was selected as first-team Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Class 5A All-State, second-team Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Class 5A All-State and second-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Central Region after setting a school record with 19 wins to go along with a 0.79 ERA and 153 K’s despite missing two months because of an injury. She is a three-time All-District 19-5A choice, winning All-District Pitcher of the Year accolades in 2016, as well as a three-time all-county selection. Adams also helped lead her travel ball team, the Scrap Yard Dawgs, to first place finishes in the Ronald McDonald, Hall of Fame and Colorado Sparkler events. A three-sport athlete, Jefferson has earned letters in softball, volleyball and basketball at Nimitz Senior H.S. in Houston, Texas. On the diamond, the 5-4 outfielder is a threetime All-District 18-6A selection and earned All-Greater Houston honors as a freshman after hitting .617 overall with 16 doubles, 11 triples, 16 stolen bases and 27 RBIs. During her sophomore campaign in 2014, Jefferson registered the most hits and highest average in her school’s history by batting at a .727 clip with 74 hits, 18 doubles, 13 triples, four HR’s, 21 steals and 37 RBIs. After managing a .687 average as a junior in 2015 (70 hits, 21 doubles, 15 triples, 31 RBIs) and swiping 18 bases, she enters her final campaign just 14 steals from having the most stolen bases in school history. On the basketball hardwood, Jefferson has been named first-team All-District 18-6A (2015) and earned an All-Greater Houston nomination, while on the volleyball court, she is a three-time All-District 18-6A choice (2013, 2014, 2016). For her Texas Aces Express Gold travel ball team and head coach David McCorkle, Jefferson has helped power her squad to first place at the 2014 Triple Crown Tournament in Atlanta, Ga., and fourth place at the 2014 ASA Nationals. During her most recent travel ball season, she batted .488 overall with 42 hits, eight doubles, four triples and 24 RBIs while swiping 22 bases and striking out just three times. A multi-sport athlete that has earned letters in softball, soccer, volleyball and cross country at the Academy of Careers & Exploration in Helendale, Calif., Romero has made quite a name for herself on the diamond. During her three-year career, she has managed a 1.25 combined ERA from the circle with 702 strikeouts over 387 innings of work, while also batting .553 with 135 total hits, 154 runs scored, 46 stolen bases and a .910 slugging percentage. Listed 20th on FloSoftball’s list of the “Hot 100 2017 Softball Recruits,” Romero recently picked up her third career selection to the California Small Schools All-State Team and the All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section First Team as a junior in 2016 after batting .645 with 49 hits, 51 runs scored, a 1.026 slugging mark and a 0.92 ERA with 237 K’s over 129 innings. During her career, she has helped her high school team to a 2014 CIF Southern Section State title as well as a state finalist berth in 2015. Romero has also picked up a selection as a 2014 MaxPreps Underclass All-American, is a three-time first-team Cross Valley League inclusion and has been named the Cross Valley League Most Valuable Player. She is also the Academy of Careers & Exploration three-mile female record holder and a three-time Cross Valley All-League choice in cross country. With the California Cruisers, Romero has helped her travel ball team to a national finalist berth at the 2016 PGF Premier 18-Under Nationals and to the title at the 2014 PGF Platinum 18-Under event. A product of Hoover, Ala., Tedder also brings along a lofty softball resume to the Forty Acres from a distinguished interscholastic career at Spain Park H.S. Ranked as the No. 25 player in FloSoftball’s “Hot 100 2017 Softball Recruits,” she is coming off a spectacular junior year in 2016 that saw her bat .455 overall with a school record 20 HR’s and 70 RBIs. During that standout 2016 campaign, Tedder also managed 10 doubles, five triples, 66 hits, 48 runs scored, 25 walks and a 1.043 slugging mark while earning a sparkling list of accolades that included: 2016 NFCA Second-Team All-American, NFCA First-Team All-South Region, USA Today Second Team All-American, FloSoftball First-Team AllAmerican, MaxPreps Player of the Year and First-Team Class 7A All-State and All-Super State honors as well as nods as the All-Metro and Over the Mountain Player of the Year and the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Alabama 7A Player of the Year. She was also a finalist for Gatorade Player of the Year honors and was recently honored as Spain Park’s Wendy’s Heisman winner. As a sophomore, Tedder was tabbed to the ASWA Second Team, to the NFCA All-Southeast Region squad and earned her second career inclusions to the Birmingham News All-Metro and All-Shelby County squads. Most recently, for her travel ball team the Birmingham Thunderbolts, she contributed a .478 batting mark with six HR’s and 26 RBIs. Off the diamond, Tedder has been a qualifier for state in cross country and a member of the state all-tournament team in bowling.
