The UWA Rodeo team will host the Annual UWA Rodeo Showdown Thursday through Saturday at the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex, located off Country Club Road near the Livingston Community Center. The main performance each day begins at 7:30p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children over the age of 5. UWA students will get in free with a valid ID.

Vendor tents and concessions will be available at the Rodeo Complex. The annual rodeo brings together cowboys and cowgirls from 10 colleges or universities from all the Ozark Region. There will be championships in nine different events. Please come out and support your UWA Tiger Wranglers as they compete in their only home event of the year Thursday though Saturday.

With a tough start to the schedule for the UWA football team, the Tigers head into this weekend with a 1-3 record. In the GSC season opener, the tigers defeated Mississippi College on the road, 38-13. Within a week, a quick turn around happened for the team in the home opener, losing 7-45 against the University of North Alabama. The team heads out to Shorter University this weekend in hopes of taking another GSC win in their reigns. Also, next Saturday, Oct. 8, is the 2016 Homecoming game against Delta State University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. After a coaching change at the end of last season, coach Kirby Patterson was ready to get the program on a roll. The men’s cross country team finished 11th in their first race of the season lead by Jakob Bernal , clocking in at 20:48.81 over the four-mile course to finish 40th. The women’s cross country team finished 14th Cecelia David was UWA's top finisher in the women's 5K race, finishing 52nd with a time of 18:59.09. During the second race of the year, Jakob Bernal covered the 8K course in 26:09.07 to come home as UWA's top finisher in 22nd place, leading the team to a fifth place finish at the Falcon Classic hosted by the University of Montevallo. Also, Cecelia David finished 12th of 117 runners, clocking in at 22:52.53 over the 6K course. Both teams return to action Oct. 1 at the UAH Chargers Invite in New Market, Ala. After a challenging start to the men’s soccer season (0-3), the back to back GSC champions are headed in the right direction, winning their fourth consecutive game this past week against Auburn University Montgomery. The Tigers are now 4-3 overall, and 1-0 in conference play. The team is at home this week against Mississippi College on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and against Delta State Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The women’s team had a similar start to the men’s, as they are currently sitting 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Tigers are currently second in conference, only one win behind the University of West Florida. The team is lead by senior Kirsten Reilly, who won the first GSC player of the week of the fall semester. Goalkeeper Issy Foster also received GSC defender of the week the same week as Reilly. The Tigers will take on Mississippi College Friday at 5 p.m., and Delta State Sunday, at 1 p.m. Admission to Tiger home soccer matches is free.

Under the direction of a new coaching staff the UWA volleyball team is off to the best start the program has had in five years. The first tournament at the University of Illinois Springfield, created a winning mentality for the Tigers, only losing one match the entire tournament. Brianna Sandifer and Callie Murphy were named to the all-tournament team. Sandifer was also named to the all-tournament team the next weekend in Arkansas and GSC defensive player of the week. Last week, the Tigers defeated Mississippi College, West Georgia and Miles, improving their record to 10-4 heading into an away weekend against Shorter and Lee. The next home games will be homecoming weekend against Union Friday at 6 p.m., and Christian Brothers Homecoming day at 9 a.m.

The West Alabama triathlon team accomplished a first in the brief history of the program by winning a dual meet, 10-11 over Centenary College of Louisiana on Sept. 24. The meet was the first dual meet in the two-year history of the Tiger program. Caitlyn Muncher won the event by covering the 550-meter swim, 19K bike leg and 5K run in 1:09.13. The Tigers will compete next at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon East Regional Qualifier Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
