Atlantic sturgeon oxygen requirements and recent oxygen levels in the River – too close for comfort!
Juveniles are sensitive to low dissolved oxygen levels • Secor and Gunderson (1998): Effects of hypoxia and temperature on survival, growth and respiration of juvenile Atlantic sturgeon: • Juveniles held under constant hypoxic conditions (3 mg/liter) for ten days at 26 degrees C had only 6% average survival. • Their growth declined by 2/3, also (it actually ceased if mortality occurred!).
ARE PRESENT LEVELS OF OXYGEN DURING SUMMER DANGEROUS TO JUVENILE STURGEON? They have been recorded at levels close to 3 mg/liter.
Where are juvenile sturgeon found during high temperatures in summer?
