Aunt Judy’s Attic

"The breezes taste of apple peel. The air is full of smells to feelRipe fruit, old footballs, burning brush, New books, erasers, chalk, and such. The bee, his hive, well-honeyed hum, And Mother cuts chrysanthemums. Like plates washed clean with suds, the days Are polished with a morning haze."

~ John Updike, September

Oh! September is Here! I love Fall, and especially love the bounty we have had this year in fruit. I have been staying busy outside the store making applesauce. Fall is such a great time of the year, changing of colors and cooler days. Also, time to be getting serious about making all those Christmas gifts. We have a great supply of Christmas fabric here at Aunt Judy's Attic. My wishes to everyone for a glorious September and here is a share from my home to yours. This was a recipe from my Nana. Fall Mystery Quilt Starts – Fabric Requirements

Fall Mystery Quilt Clue 1

HOW TO USE A COLOR WHEEL – Part 3 NEUTRAL COLORS are very weak colors that allow other colors to move forward in a design – often used for backgrounds or in areas that should be less noticeable. Variations of gray, beige and black are considered neutral and even though white is a neutral, stark white sometimes pops forward in the design. MONOCHROMATIC quilts are made from just one color but needn’t be boring. Pick the color you want and then add all sorts of light to dark SHADES, TINTS, and TONES of the color. Contrast is important so be sure to choose a range of fabrics in dark to light. ANALOGOUS describes colors that lie side by side on the color wheel. They look good together naturally because their color roots are similar. To use, select fabrics in a focal color and then choose from the two colors on each side of the focal. If you like, extend outward and add the next round of colors nearest to the focal. Try not to use equal amounts of the adjacent colors – mix it up! COMPLEMENTARY COLORS are located across from each other on the color wheel – red and green; red-orange and blue-green; yellow and purple; blue and orange. It’s often best to use one complementary color in smaller quantities than its partner. Use one as a highlight, sprinkling it throughout the layout. Forget about the rules for colors that do and do not match and go with your instincts. Use the color wheel, experiment and then let your imagination take over! ~ Janet Wickell, thespruce.com
