O

ne woman was killed and another person seriously injured after a head-on collision in Robbins on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. near 136th Street and Pulaski Road and involved a black Dodge Avenger and a silver Chevrolet Camaro, police said. Robbins deputy police chief Roy Wells Sr. said he is withholding comment pending the Cook County Sheriff's Police's reconstruction of the accident but confirmed that two adults and an infant were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identifed the woman killed in the crash as Janeka M. Hicks, 26, of the 13900 block of Central Park in Robbins. One witness, who was attending a graduation party at a nearby home, said a passer-by pulled the baby from the back seat of the Dodge Avenger as it caught fire.

"When they pulled the baby out, the baby was OK," said Quintiana Blake, of Robbins. "All I heard was a boom. I yelled, 'the car was on fire, call 911.'" Robert Szymanski, of Chicago Ridge, said he was traveling southbound on Pulaski as the Avenger passed in the northbound lanes at a high speed. "Within seconds I heard the brakes and then a really bad impact. I don't know if she was chasing somebody or racing, but there was another car. He kept going. Didn't even come back." A father of two, Szymanski said the scene was "unbelievable." Hannah Kohut is a freelance reporter for the Daily Southtown. Copyright © 2016, Daily Southtown
