Keep In Mind – Following Government Affairs (GA) Truths • Need to prove contribution to your organization – GA traditionally seen as a cost center to organizations • Speak internal client’s language – Need to be relatable to co-worker business clients • Get buy-in from the Top C-Suite • Integrate GA across key departments in the organization

Incorporate tactics utilized into GA metrics/goals. Examples: – “develop partnership with three other organizations to educate . . .“ – “neutralized negative XXX legislation in three states by revising legislation acceptable . . .”



GA traditionally seen more of an art than a science / Previously viewed as “dark art” by many! But today . . . – Big Data is your friend – can help quantify value & mainstream GA – Provide $ analysis of defeating legislation – Provide $ analysis of proactive legislation providing opportunity / cost savings

GA Metrics – Practical Tips • Have standing scheduled meetings with key internal business clients – Listen to their concerns & see how you can help / show value via GA

• “Little Things” count, examples: – Review draft professional articles & provide commentary suggestions for edits – Provide GA analysis for project ideas / presentations

• Bring GA fun to work place: Invite regulators & legislators to visit • Bring your co-workers (all levels) on regulatory and legislative visits – let them be front & center
