Print and Sign: Parent Athlete Agreement Form and Concussion Form, return to coach with in 3 days of meeting. Pay to Participate: ALHS Payment Depository
When are tryouts? The week of February 22nd thru February 26th. Times are 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. High School Auxiliary Gyms. Bring your softball gear.(Glove, bat & helmet if you have them. Bats and helmets provided.) • Tennis shoes, t-shirt, and shorts are proper attire. Bring sweats and hoodie, we may go outside, weather permitting. • • • •
Expectations • Be on time and ready to go at scheduled start time. ( If you show up at 5p.m. you are late.) • Hustle through all drills. • Show enthusiasm, sportsmanship, teamwork and athletic ability. • Display knowledge of the game. • Show respect to coaches and other players.
What is Being Evaluated? Softball Skills • • • •
Throwing (Arm strength and accuracy) Fielding (Proper position and footwork) Hitting (Proper form : Hitting off a machine and live) Attitude / ‘Coachability’: Interaction with others and how you react when pushed to the limit. • Softball Knowledge: How you react in different game situations. • Performance during game / simulated competition • Commutations Skills: Communication between players in drills so no one gets hurt and everyone knows who is covering what.
Team Selections • The head coach, varsity assistant and junior varsity coaches will be involved in all team selections. • Team selections should be finished by the end of day, February 26TH . • All players, selected or not, will be spoken to one on one with coaching staff. • Players not selected will be encouraged to develop their skills and tryout next spring.
Parent Involvement • • • •
Let the coaches coach during games. Organize team dinners. Assist in Senior Night. Support our team throughout the season as a positive fan. • If there is a problem that you or your daughter feel they need to speak to a coach about, please don’t do it after the game. Set up an appointment with the Head Coach.
Athletes Who Make the Team • This is a competitive program, and playing time is earned in practices and inter-squad scrimmages. • All team functions are mandatory including those during Spring Break. • We expect all team players to respect and support other players, coaches, umpires and school administrators. • All players are responsible for their uniforms and other team equipment issued.
Mandatory Parents Meeting • There is a mandatory parent meeting in the PAC on March 1st at 7:00 p.m. • If you attended the Fall or Winter meeting, then you may show up @ 7:30 for just the Softball related part of the meeting. • PARENTS AND ATHLETES ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND. • Meeting should last approximately 1 hour.
