„ZFF 72 Talent Contest“: 72 Hours for 72 Seconds Everyone can participate Zurich, September 3, 2014 An exciting race against time: For its 10th anniversary, Zurich Film Festival launches the „ZFF 72 Talent Contest“. Participants – either individuals or teams – are given 72 hours to create a film clip with a specified theme lasting no longer than 72 seconds. ZFF wants to rouse film fever in young talents worldwide and motivate them to have a go at filmmaking outside the box. Those wishing to take part have until Wednesday, September 24, 00:00 to register at zff.com. The theme of the short film will be announced online at the start of the contest on Friday, September 26 at 12:00 (noon). Entrants are free to choose the genre of their film. A jury of specialists and the worldwide online community will judge the entries. There are prizes totalling CHF 10'000 to be won: The „Viewers Award“ is endowed with a CHF 4'000, and the „Jury Award“ with a CHF 5'000 cash prize. Both winners also each receive a CHF 500 voucher for the online platform Pond5. The contest kicks off on Friday 26, at 12:00 noon when ZFF Co-‐Director Karl Spoerri announces via video at zff.com the theme that the film clips must tackle. Entries must reach us before 12:00 noon on Monday, September 29 – that’s 72
hours later! A help desk will be set up in the Festival Centre at Sechseläutenplatz for the duration of the contest. Here, students from Zurich University of the Arts will be on hand to offer help and advice. Participants also have free access to approx. 50 media files from Pond5, which they can download and use in their entry. The works will be judged on the one hand by the worldwide online public, which will vote via zff.com, and on the other by a jury of film and social media professionals. This jury comprises Lucas Ochoa, film producer from London; Bart Wasem, freelance clips and visuals designer; Benjamin Kniel, member of the Swiss band Klischée; and the college graduate Aurelia Weickart, who has just written a paper about film education in schools. Public Voting begins on September 29 at 18.00, six hours after the film submission deadline, and runs until 12.00 noon on October 3. The award ceremony takes place at 22:00 on October 3 during the „ZFF 72 Talent Party“ at the Papiersaal. Doors open at 21:00. The band Klischée will also perform during the party.
