One pair each U.S. sizes 7 and 8 (4.5 and 5 mm) straight needles or size to obtain gauge. Split-ring stitch markers or waste yarn. 4 buttons, ½" diameter. Yarn needle.
GAUGE In stockinette stitch using size 8 (5mm) needles, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10 cm
INSTRUCTIONS Stripe Pattern (multiple of 2 sts + 1): Row 1 (RS): With B, k1, *sl 1 pwise, holding yarn in back of work, k1; rep from * across. Row 2: P1, *sl 1 pwise, holding yarn in front of work, p1; rep from * across. Row 3-5: Work in St st beg with a knit row. Row 6: Knit. Rows 7-8: Change to A, rep Rows 1-2. Rows 9-13: Work in St st, beg with a knit row. Row 14: Knit. Rep Rows 1-14 for Stripe patt. BACK With A and smaller needles, CO 47 (51, 55) sts. Rows 1 and 3 (RS): *P1, k1; rep from * to last st, p1. Row 2 (WS): *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1. Row 4 (WS): Purl. Change to larger needles. Work in Stripe patt until piece measure 7 (7 ½, 8) ” from beg. Place markers for underarms. Continue in Stripe patt until piece measures 11 (12, 13)” from beg, end with a WS row. BO all sts. RIGHT FRONT With A and smaller needles, CO 33 (35, 37) sts. Rows 1 and 3 (RS): K2,*p1, k1; rep from * to last st, p1, turn. Row 2 (WS): K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2. Row 4 (WS): Purl to last 2 sts, k2. Change to larger needles. Work in Stripe patt until piece measures 9 (9 ½, 10) ” from beg, end with a WS row. Shape Neck Next Row (RS): BO 6 (7, 8) sts, place marker, work to end —27 (28, 29) sts. BO at neck edge every 2nd row 5 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts twice and 1 st once --14 (15, 16) sts. Work even until piece measures same as Back. BO all sts. LEFT FRONT Work as for Right Front, reversing shaping and working two sets of double buttonholes, 4 sts from front edge and 5 sts apart, when piece measures 6 ¾ (7, 7 ¼)" and 8 ¾ (9, 9 ¼)” from beg as follows: Buttonhole Row (WS): Maintaining patt work 4 sts, (yo, p2tog), for first buttonhole, work 5 sts, (yo, p2tog) for 2nd buttonhole, work to end. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
