Apple Lacing For this activity you will need: green, red, and/or yellow construction paper, markers, scissors, single hole puncher, and yarn/string. This activity is designed to develop and promote fine motor and visual motor skills, scissors grasp and cutting skills, fine motor control, eye-hand coordination, bilateral hand use, and sequencing. 1. Print the apple template. 2. Cut and trace template on a red, green, or yellow construction paper. 3. Provide the child with 2 sheets of construction paper in the same color, one sheet with the apple image on it. 4. Ask the child to cut out the apple (the child needs to cut both sheets). If the child has difficulty cutting, we recommend providing thicker lines. Note: it might be useful to attach both sheets with a staple or a paper clip to prevent sliding of the pages. You can also use a large sheet of paper and fold it in half, drawing the apple on one half. 5. Using the single hole puncher, instruct the child to punch holes around the edge of the apples (keep apples attached so the holes are matching on both copies). You can mark dots or X's wherever you want the child to punch a hole. 6. Provide the child with a piece of yarn/string and ask him to lace it around the apple. 7. Tie a knot at the edge of the string. Note: you can have the child crumble newspaper sheets or tissue paper and stuff it between the 2 apples before tying the knot, to make the apple 3D looking.
