I am very interested in the call for art for the Lead Bank community art wall banners. I propose a painted, abstract landscape, digitally reproduced in the form of a triptych. I’m a senior at the Kansas City Art Institute, and have experience in sculpture and painting. My work is expressive and revolves around nature, and I’m inspired by the organic shapes I find in landscapes. I render them in neon colors to portray the high energy I feel from being in these settings.
The images are inspired by explorations of the outdoors. After living in a city, I enjoy driving through the natural landscape and watching it zip by out my window. The formal qualities of the paintings; the colors, the brush strokes; are a translation of the feeling of the settings when I stop and take in the experience.
The triptych style of the banners works well with the movement in my paintings, because the forms flow naturally from banner to banner. I’ve included two different options; one horizontal painting split into three sections, and three vertical paintings that naturally blend together. This installation will bring organic movement, energized colors, and forms of nature into the city, leaving the viewers with a vibrant and lively art encounter.
