No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.

Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Oswego opens doors to the future with internships and study-abroad opportunities that consistently rate among the highest in the SUNY system.

Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Frank Paino (Career Record: 462-335-1) Frank Paino has been at the helm of Laker baseball program since 1987 building a career record of 462-335-1, continuing the standards set by former coaches Max Ziel and Walt “Doc” Nitardy. Paino is a 1982 graduate of Coastal Carolina where he played on successful baseball teams that made four regional and two World Series appearances. At Oswego State, Paino’s teams have been invited to postseason play in 14 of his 24 years. His Lakers have won eight SUNYAC West and three SUNYAC Championship titles and been to the ECAC Championships on eight occasions, winning twice and placing second three times. During his tenure, the Lakers have set Division III records for double plays per game and home runs per season. Paino’s teams have also set Laker records in team fielding percentage, doubles per game, home runs in a season, and strikeouts per game. In the 2001 season, Paino earned his 300th victory and won his 400th game during the 2007 season. Paino also serves as the Strength Training Coordinator at the varsity weight room.

2010 Season in Review Lakers Reach 20-Win Plateau The Oswego State baseball team closed out its Spring Break trip with a six-game winning streak to jumpstart the season. The Lakers recorded seven doubleheader sweeps en route to a 20-16 overall record and 2-10 record in SUNYAC play. Offense played an important role in the team’s success as it scored ten or more runs in 11 games this season. Leading the way at the plate for the Lakers was junior Rafael Cordero, who hit .364 with a teamleading 32 RBI. Senior Andy Salvatore paced the pitching staff with a 3.28 ERA, five complete games, and 32 strikeouts.
